Coming to VEGAS!!!

well rather than starting a new one, figured i would just bring this one up again. but anyways to the point, the end of april me and my girl are gonna take my brother and his girl to vegas. i am looking at booking a trip, through expedia or one of those websites, and i wanted some recommendations on nice hotels, that are on the strip so we don't have to traverse to much. so where would you recommend on staying, i was looking at the sahara?

thanks,

Sahara is a bit out of the way (although it is on the strip).. i'd suggest looking into Harrahs or Flamingo since they are located pretty much in the middle of the strip AND they have a monorail stop at each of those, so you can leave your room and walk to the monorail to get to distant ends of the strip if you don't feel like walking.. (or if you do feel like walking, you can catch the monorail back to your room so you don't have to walk the round trip!)

they are both harrahs properties, so check out www.harrahs.com for more info.

Also, Flamingo has a real nice pool area and when I was there last July, they did pool parties on Saturday with plenty to look at if you know what I mean :)

Some other fav's of mine are Caesar's, Treasure Island and Rio. Rio is off the strip, but has a shuttle that runs to several stops on the strip pretty regularly (every 20 mins).

Big money locations: Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, but for the amount of time you'll spend in the room, I don't find it worth it.

I'll probably miss you by about a month (going back in Late May) and then again in November for my usual anniversary trip. Also, I was just there in January for CES (and of course this past November for my anniversary). I just wish it wasn't a 5 hour flight to & from Baltimore!!

Have fun!

edit: here's a nice 3D map courtesy of the Las Vegas Monorail. You can see Sahara is as far north on the (new) strip as it gets:
http://www.lvmonorail.com/ride/route_map/ (the strip is about 4 miles long, i know the map can be deceiving and make it look like a shorter walk, but Sahara (far north) versus Mandalay bay (far south) are both on the strip but also in seperate zip codes (89109 versus 89119)!!

^^^^ So yeah.....think the fkmp5 from Baltimore....kind hit the nail on the head.

Stay away from the big name ones, not worth it. Harrahs is good, another place that has nice rooms is the barbary coast. Its a really small casino on the strip...pretty much just rooms. You can get a good deal there. That is were my father stays when he comes in from VT.

depending on how long ur staying and how busy ur gonna be, maybe we can set up a little get together ?

well i'm flying in on the 26th and flying out on the 30th.... it could be longer but my brother just started a new job and we couldn't get his boss to let him off for an extended period of time. this is all a big surprise to him!

well thanks for the info guys! yea we probably won't be in the room much, i just want something that is clean.

I too am going up to Vegas. I am going in the beginning of april with my girl. We are staying at Imperial Palace...because it is next to O'Sheas (my favorite little dive casino in Vegas).

Are the buffets listed before still good being they are 3 years old? Any new reccomendations? Are there any "must see" shows? Any other advice?

The best buffet I had in Vegas was at the Flamingo, and I would also recommend the Rum Jungle over at the Mandalay Bay, its not a buffet but very good. (you need a reservation)

My advice, get a multi day monorail pass the first day you arrive and if you want to drink go to Freemont as it is 1/3 the cost of the strip.

you pay for your drinks?

definately check out the Carnival World buffet at Rio. go there for dinner so you can see the Masquerade in the sky (daily; nights) and get your mardi gras beads too!!

as for shows I saw Cirque du Soleil's "LOVE" which is a Beatles theme and plays at Mirage. My wife and I found it to be excellent, especially if you enjoy any bit of Beatles music. I also saw Blue Man Group at Venetian and didn't know what to expect or if I would care for it, but absolutely loved it. Danny Gans was also an excellent show.

Also, check for other shows that might happen to be in town while you're there.. for example, I saw Kevin James doing stand up once and Howie Mandel stand up routine on my last trip.

hehe. i come about 4 times a year. although i only have 3 trips planned this year (counting one in january which I already came out for).. but who knows, sometimes i get these ideas to fly out for a long weekend on short notice.

it's a mix between work trips and personal trips..

sometimes you'll find when you live somewhere you don't get as much out of it as the visitors. you could go see those shows any night you wanted to, so what's the urgency or motivation to actually go out and do it.. me, I've only got about a week at a time so I have to squeeze them in when I'm there..

yeah.....I have seen a lot cause my mom is able to hook me up comp tickets and passes for alot of clubs and shows.

perks I guess. But i know what you mean...i guess i went to alot a first cause I just moved here...now they are not as important.

As far as buffets, the best can be found at the Rio and the Alladin(soon to be Planet Hollywood).
I also like the buffet at the Orleans, reasonably priced and great choices. The Orleans is my favorite place to play and hang out. It is about 1.5miles west of the strip on Tropicana Ave.

well to keep us in within our budget, we will be staying at the circus circus. so it didn't really matter much since we will only be in the room to s*** -n- shower, and just as long as I have a place to pass out and not worry about getting taking away by the PO-PO.

i did ask my g/f if we could get a hooker while we there or take a ride out to the bunny ranch, but she shot me down.... i told her "what happens in vegas, stays in vegas!" but she didn't agree, i do have until the 26th of april to convince her though. so help me show her the good side of things! ;)

you know what, that's what they want you to believe, but i've always found it to actually be, "what happens in vegas, your money stays in vegas"

i'm I doing something wrong?
