Colorado Inspection Question

2003 Protege ES
I currently live in Kansas but hope to be moving to Colorado in the next couple months.

I have a 2003 Protege ES with an OBX 4-1 header (among other things- see sig). Obviously this removes the primary cat. Will this cause me to fail the inspection? I've heard in some places they just hook up to the OBDII port and that's it. I have the non-fouler fix in place with no check engine light.

I still have the factory exhaust manifold, so if it comes to it, I can just swap back to that for the inspection.

Thanks

you should be fine with emissions inspection. I seriously doubt you will have any problems out here. Good luck and if you come out head over to highaltitudeimports.com for local car scene. I would like to get a meet together this summer as well.

So there's no visual inspection under the hood? I'm not too worried about not passing the tail pipe sniffer test.

I remember they had me pop the hood, but don't think they where really paying attention. Good luck ! And that was in the springs.

As of January 1, 2007 the Colorado Springs area no longer does emissions tests.

When Colorado Springs was doing it, it was simply a tail pipe test with having to keep the engine at certain RPM for about 30 seconds. Technically they were within thier right to inspect anything they wanted and could flunk you for no cat, but in reality you go get the test performed at jiffy lube and those guys barely understand how to drive the car into the garage.

I don't live in Denver, but I believe they still do the test, and I think it is a tougher test, and is more involved than the one where I live.
Hope that helps
