hope i'm posting in the right area. i'm concerned about the color of the oil after as few as 2k miles. i changed it and almost had a heart attack when i saw it draining. it was nearly black. i've heard that direct injection leaves more particles, also turbos can 'cook' the oil.

my background is 1991 honda crx si, had it for 16 yrs and changed oil every 3-5k miles and it was barely amber color. should i worry about this or is it normal? is there a better, larger oil filter that can be fitted?

looking forward to finding out answers.

ya, after 2k miles you can bet it's got pretty contaminated, it's doing it's job!

I was surprised with the stock oil color turning dark so quickly, but since I've been running full synthetic (Red Line) and it still gets dark but it a lot more resistant to turning colors...

For peace of mind you could get a used oil analysis to find out what the "black" is. I am sure you will find it is normal.

Does anyone know what kind of oil was in the car from the factory? I was surprised at the color when it was new, is it a synthetic from the factory?

After my first change I'm looking at using German Castrol 0W-30 full synthetic.

I think stock ran semi-synth. My first oil change was a brownish color at 1k. After that, it comes out pretty clean, but I change it regularly with Redline.
