Cold air intake

I have another question. I took my car to my Mazda dealership and wanted them to put in a cold air intake. After messing around for about an hour, they said they could put one in, but it would look like s*** cause there was not much room to put one in cause of the turbo. What cold air intake would fit best, and would it give me enough gains to make it worth it?

there are a few you can go with, search the forums for intakes. You will find a lot of info. Or check out the link in my sig for pics of my injen.

Also don't let the dealer install it....do it yourself, its not hard and its a good way to learn about your car.

search for injen or aem.

If it isn't that hard I think I would have a go. I have a couple of frioends that are a little bit more mechanically inclined than me, so I would probably have them help out. Thanks for the info!!

A Mazda dealership is probably the last place one should go for performance mods on a car that's still under warranty.

yep what he said. you'll save a lot of money/time too along the way. after that you'll be installing your own exhaust, fmic, boost controller, and with the money you save from labor you can buy some sort of engine/fuel management.

yup that's exactly what i did installed everything on my car

install it all yourself, did my injen cai in like an hour and a half and most of that was just getting the car up to detach/ attach at the turbo and attach the filter, and like everybody else says, it helped me see where things are and how they connect and what i want to change, you'll learn so much by doing your own installs.

Installing Own Mods

I have little to no experience on cars. Would you think that is wise to try and learn with no experience?

HAVE THEM DO IT! Then when your engine pops and they try to say a CAI caused a rod to snap (it happened to me) then you can say, well you guys put it on, so fix my engine!

Cold Air

That is one reason why I think I'll have them do it. If anything goes wrong I'm screwed. Ta for the info!

I have little or no ecperience with cars too and i put my injen cai on myself...took me forever but it its been on for about 6 months now and no problems,,,PLUS you learn alot more about how your car runs

Trust me, I'm totally into learning how to do things myself. You can save yourself a bundle on labor. If there isn't to much to it, I might have a go.

are you serious? they said that.

Not only that, but that "they had seen it happen on four other MSP's in the area."

Oh wait... There are only three MSP's in omaha including mine. Stupid fuckers.

intake is sooooo easy. if you're that nervous, im sure someone on this board has to live around you to at least give you a hand.

to give you an idea of what you're gonna have to do, try finding a "how to install" in the forum for one of intakes injen/aem. you'll get an idea of what you have to do and see if its something you can handle.

thats bull s*** though, cai or short ram intake, i have never heard of one causing internal problems, maybe if you tried to use it as a snorkel unsuccesfully or drove around in a wind storm in the fall with no filter or hood on.

I had my MSP booked for a intake about 6mnths ago. It was there for 1 hour, and the mechanic came out and said that there wasn't any room for the intake, and that he could put it in but it would look like s*** cause he would have to rough it in. So the idea of me doing it seems daunting.

i totaly agree with daedalus, if they install it, they cannot void your warranty for having it. one less thing to take off when you take it in for work..
