Coil spring mod?

alright... i've searched for about an hour now and cant find the coil spring mod... laloosh has been talking it up and i have now clue what it does or what it is... thanks guys

(bump)

(huh) I've heard of it...but I know no details. I think Driver311 is the one that pioneered it or something like that...

You remove the coil packs and separate the rubber part from the plastic part. Inside there is a long spring. Driver311 found that if you stretch the middle, fatter part of the spring significantly, the car runs smoother and studders less btw gears. Several MS6s, including myself, have also done this with similar results. Great find, easy fix.

I'm a little nervous about stretching the spring out too much...
What if your car does not exhibit those symptoms...? Just skip the mod?
Any write ups with pics?

I stretch the living hell out of mine and crammed the whole thing back together. No worries. If you're car is running fine, skip it. If it ain't broke....

This is an old school track trick. I had to laugh when it was posted. I seriously love this kinda stuff but i tend to agree with ddrcr.

i did this mod too. i figure its one of those things that probably is not needed, but what the hell right ?? it sure wont hurt anything.

Thats the first time I have read the middle of the spring. I stretched out the ends of mine (.25") and I feel it does nothing at all.

its simple really. pull your coil packs out like you are going to change your spark plugs. hold on to the head of the pack (where the harness goes) and just pull the long tube off that extends down to the plug. inside there is a long spring. stretch out the middle section and put it all back together. you usually wont see any change if you are not running high boost levels. it did seem to get rid of some very light stuttering i was having at about 4500rpm with 18psi.

i do still get cut if i keep my boost high when the temps are less than 20 degrees. it is better, but not gone. i just have to keep my foot off the floor when the temps drop that low. once i get my dashhawk i plan on logging some data and hopefully figuring out what the hell is happening. knowing my luck, it wont get cold enough for me to test, but we'll see.

I data logged mine with a standback and it shows 100% nothing. I know the DH has alot more oem parameters so good luick with that.
