These things claim to give some solid power gains. I dont know much about them, but they don't seem too safe / reliable. If they were im sure more people would have them . . . Anway could anyone please inform me a little about these. Seems too good to be true. Plug it in and instant 30 whp / improved fuel economy. Im not sure about that HP gain but i know its pretty high. Saw a white speed 6 at the dealer with a blown rod from a new engine chip. . . Don't want to make that same mistake. Thanks for any help.

I do not doubt the Cobb AP claims. The reason not too many people have them is because Cobb kinda neglected the MS6 community and decided to focus all their efforts on Subbies, Evos and MS3s. That left the MS6 community very bitter, and we were forced to turn our attention to CP-E and Protege Garage. CP-e came through like our guardian angels and there is very high customer loyalty to CP-E because they stuck with our community when no one else did. Also, the biggest benefit of the Cobb AP is that is was supposed to control the throttle, which CP-e figured out and released a few months ago. With the CP-E throttle reflash, paired with the Standback (which people have had on their car for up to 2 years), the CP-E equipment does all the Cobb does and then more. Because of this, there is very little reason to switch from CP-E to COBB. Plus, most of the people who really want to modify these cars already have with other parts.

So, I do not think it is a reason of COBB being inferior, but just they are now late to the market and dont have the customer backing they once would have had.

You may want to read the MS3 forums because they released the Cobb AP for the MS3 maybe 6 months ago, but there have been alot for re-sale. I do not know the reasons because I try to stay out of that thread.

well the face that the cp-e throttle flash + standback is about twice what the AP costs, so thats a godo reason to switch, not to mention you don't have to remove your ECU and send it to cp-e to have it flashed. i have been beta testing the AP for cobb for the past week and i have used both the standback and the AP and i think the AP has proved to be the better bet for me. there is a thread already in the ECU section.

why would price be a good reason to switch if you already spent the money on the more expensive option? Do you think there would be noticeably better gains on a stock speed6 with the AP vs. the standback+flash?

i am not saying price is the only reason to switch, but also simplicity. i mean sure currently you can't custom tune using the AP like you can with the standback but my afr's and everything is much better dialed in with the AP then I could do by myself tuning with the standback when i had it. but why would you want to pay $400 just for a full throttle flash in which you have to remove your ecu then send it and what not when the AP does that and also tunes your car for $695 unless you find a deal like I did. I like cp-e's products but this time i'm going to have to go with cobb as I'd rather have a flash then a piggyback which merily tricks the ecu and modifys the signal which can lead to problems in various types of weather climates.
