Clutch, Trans, or LSD?

So, a few days ago I was launching from a light & as I hit second I had a hard grind. I didn't short shift or mess up my clutch+shift timing at all. I confirmed this a few more times while under load with a launch from other lights but they were not hard pushes at all. When under normal load everything is fine & there is NO grind whatsoever. I confirmed this again today when I had a bit of a hard pull from a stop that ended up grinding into second. It's just very strange to me that this started all the sudden a day or so ago. A few weeks ago I noticed a minor second to third grind under load but it was very small. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like transmission

It isn't the lsd. When it goes, the car doesn't. Just sits there and makes bad noises.

Since normal speed shifts show no problem, but hard pulls do, I would suspect the synchro on the one-two gearset. Drain your transmission oil and check for yellow metal bits which would be ground up synchro teeth.

If you have this problem, it's gonna be expensive to fix. See the How To on replacing your lsd to get an idea of how much teardown you have to do to get to the transmission.

Hey thanks for the reply. I was under the impression it was synchro's also as was a guy I work with. Blah, that sucks. Nothing like having an expensive out-of-warranty transmission repair at like 60k miles. Now I'm really excited.

FWIW, my car has done what you describe since it was new. And front drivers in general tend to have that problem.

around my area, TBK performance charges 41$ per synchro (no use on just changing one) and 250 labor

there are 5 synchros i'm i'm not mistaken

this is you giving them the tranny wihtout the car...

check around, it might be cheaper
