***Clutch pedal NOT holding pressure - help asap***

so the other day my wife was driving the car and the clutch pedal apparently got stuck on the floor, i put some fluid in the main resevoir which did help a little since i was able to drive the car home, but was really bad, i would have to keep pumping the clutch to keep pressure and shift very fast.

well the other night a neighbhor of mine helped me bleed the small valve (i guess slave cylinder?) that is mounted on the front of my transmission, and for the most part only fluid came out so i had him pump the clutch fast and a little bit of air came out.

Though the clutch is A LITTLE better, it still requires being pumped and if pushed on very lightly it will sink to the floor and get stuck.

my question is WTF DO I DO? should i bleed the dam thing dry?????

the sooner this piece of crap is fixed the better, i've never had a car fail on me in winter when i need it the most and this mazda has been nothing but problems....

please help! should i keep bleeding til the thing holds pressure???? need fixed ASAP

sounds like you got a leak somewhere.my guess would be the clutch master cylinder.check for any leakjs near the fire wall. also check around the slave cylinder for leaks

i assume the slave cylinder is the little one on the tranny and the master cylinder is the big one on the firewall? correct?

worse case if one was bad, how much of a b**** is it to change either? and worse case on cost of both of them individually?

thanks

I can't remember what the line is called, but it's not the master cylinder. The same thing happen to me...dammit...I'm about to take a pic and post it for you.

slave cylinder isnt too bad, 2 12mm bolts under the dash and the clutch line 10mm line wrench.sleve cylinder 2 12m bolts and 10mm line wrench.theres also the rubber clutch lyne right near the driver side motor mount

It's the line that's held to the side wall. I guarantee that's the problem. Mine busted and the clutch just fell to the floor. The line is about $40 at Autozone :)

you could have described that section to me without pictures but you get a gold star for the picture, i appreciate it man - i know exactly what section your talking about, now if your still online and see this - i think that this is odd because the clutch pedal is useable after i bled the line 2 nights ago and i just have to pump it a bunch, but i do think that its also odd seing as there was no fluid missing from the resivoir.....

gonna go check that section now, when yours was broken, was it totally busted in half or have a massive hole in it or something??

thanks everyone for your help

hey guys i went and checked the above section of tubing and it seems to be fine upon visual inspection - plus there is NO hydraulic fluid ANYWHERE which is what pisses me off about this whole thing, you would think there would be a leak : thus the clutch pedal cant hold pressure...

leak could sill be in your master clutch cylinder..just like the master cylinder you wouldn't really see a leak..

hmm interesting.... well i guess that would mean that air did get inside the system??

my friend and i are gonna blead it a little more cause it has improved a little and see if we cant get any more air outta the lines or do what we can to make her driveable for my wife tomorrow

when i found my leak it was from inside the firewall.the piston was leaking inside the cabin

hows your brakes feeling?
the trans and brake fluid are connected... i know this because when i bleed my clutch line i had to refill my brake fluid

brakes feel great, and i noticed that the trans line came from the brake resevoir and that it went down a touch after i bled it a little. the brakes feel great and that is one thing why i'm so confused. i see no leaks, brakes feel great, rubber section of trans line is fine, my clutch pedal just stopped working. (gah)

Sounds like either the master or the slave to me. Your symptoms are identical to what happened in my Rx7: pedal goes to the floor, pumping the pedal eventually builds up enough pressure to engage the clutch, no signs of leakage anywhere... You can bleed it until the proverbial cows come home, but it's not going to fix the problem.

I'd suggest replacing both the master and the slave at the same time. It's difficult to figure out which it the real culprit; also, if one is gone then the other one is usually gone too. Or at least on its way out. A halfway-decent backyard mechanic can replace both in a couple hours.

My line was completely busted. Sorry for the wait man :(

I was sure that was the problem...arg.

The cylinder can bypass internally - you pump fluid but it just goes around the seal and never build pressure. It will bleed - because the line is open/no resistance.

If the cost isn't much - replace both cylinders. If it is - replace the master first.

i paid like $46 for the master and the slave is like $30 or so

any mods on the p5 i have a AEM cai and all the fluid went into the filter and i ended up replacing everything clutch, flywheel, clutch master, and slave cylinder i even orderd the clutch line from PG . And after all the work it ended up being the line and it was the last thing that i put on

I didn't want to grow up to be a thread pirate but i need some halp.

so my clutch hose busted exactly as CantCMe speculated, "It's the line that's held to the side wall. I guarantee that's the problem. Mine busted and the clutch just fell to the floor. The line is about $40 at Autozone" and showed with a photo

The local parts store don't carry it and recommend me to go to the mazda parts center instead of using some random steel braided line another recommended me.

Even if I order it tomorrow, the soonest it'll arrive will be by next tuesday.
I'm just going on and on...
Here's the real question, what is the name or part number of that black hose?

Clutch Hose?(that's what mazda of oakland called it)

and where can i buy it or something that will fulfill my need.

Pat.
