clutch making squeaking/groaning sound

:
2003 Protege5
Thanks in advance for any help...

2005 PR5, 137K miles. When i push in the clutch pedal, i get a sqeaking/groaning sound (like an old screen door spring) that seems to be originating from inside the clutch housing. I'm figuring "new clutch" at this age but wanted to confirm. Transmission shifts a little notchy but ok, or im used to it.

Thanks.

What kind of groaning? Sexy groaning? Not so sexy groaning? Or was it more of a moo-ing?

Probably a good idea to replace your groaning clutch, hopefully it's not the throw out bearing too.

A squeak is likely to come from the master cylinder pushrod and pivot, and where the slave cylinder contacts the clutch fork. Could be coming from the inside of the clutch housing, but if that's the case there isn't much you can do about it.

It's the throwout bearing, usually new clutches include new throwout and pilot bearings. Replace them all and resurface the flywheel when doing the clutch.

Try just bleeding the clutch first.

My clutch was feeling kinda "crunchy" .

Bleeding it made all the difference

I have a similar squeak noise when I push my clutch in. I also get a crunchy rattle noise (kinda like a heat shield) when I start out in 1st all the way up to 3rd when my toms aren't matched properly. Slave cylinder and clutch line replaced and clutch was bled, got better for awhile but still had the squeak in the pedal. I'm thinking it's either time for a new master cylinder or new clutch. Getting a bit notchy when I shift from 2nd to 1st and also find I have to lift the pedal about 1/4 in from the floor at times to get it all the way into 1st and reverse (mostly reverse)

Toms= rpms? How many miles?

Lol, auto correct fail >_<

Car has about 124k miles on it, and afaik is still on the original clutch and master cylinder. Pretty sure almost everything on the car is still original (minus the normal wear/maintenance items like timing belt, brakes, tires, etc and the few things I've replaced)

Squeaky pedal can also be the bushing and pin on top of the clutch pedal inside the car. About $12 in parts from the dealer

Good to know :) I still haven't tried hitting the pin in the car with pb blaster, considered that as being s problem though. Although with the notchy shifting and whatnot, I'm planning for a new clutch anyhow (and it makes.for a good excuse to upgrade the mounts to ploy, and install a fidanza flywheel with a stage 2 clutch lol)

Ya know, a lot of my issues started after I drained and filled the trans with synthetic valvoline 75w140...had the proper gl5 rating...level is still right, so it shouldn't be an issue...probably switch over to red line or royal purple when I drop the trans. I'd like.to put the taller 5th gear in anyhow when I do the flywheel and stage 2 exedy

Redline took care of my 3rd gear clunk at 70000 miles even when its below 32deg. I use it in both of my Audis with manual transmissions and they shift beautifully.
