Only when its cold does this clicking sound occur but when the engine is warm it does not do this. Has anyone experienced this as well? It started around 8-900 miles. Does not seem to be getting worse at 1500 miles.

I have the same thing. Mine how ever, I noticed after driving for about a half an hour. pulled up to my mail box then when backing up to drive way I noticed it! That was about 13000 miles. I am going in next week for 15000 mile service and going to have it checked out then.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed this. Glad to see that you have had no problems with this. Im so busy at this time with work and school that it will be a couple of weeks before Im able to go to the dealer. Not too worried about it though. Warrenty and all. I notice the clicking sound every morning in my garage when I put it in reverse but Ive tried it after I return home and it does not do it. Thanks for the reply.

Yep, our AWD CX-9 clicks every time we start it up in the garage and put it in reverse. Not sure if it does it after warmed up.

I am experiencing some rough engine noise during acceleration too, mostly before the engine is warmed up, but my wife said she noticed it again after having driven >10 miles. Anyone else experiencing this? We're running 87 octane gas. I'm thinking of trying a different gas station or octane. I may also take it into the dealer as soon as I have a moment.

eLDO64 we havent had that prob yet but ours will go in tommorow for 15000 mile service and to check clicking noise! I will post tommorow what they say!

Same here, when starting the car in reverse. However, without even moving an inch, try to put it back to Park, and back to Reverse. For the second attempt I can't hear the clicking noise. I presume, this noise is somehow related to the transmission oil. What I mean is something in the tranny immerses in oil when switch from P to R after an overnight parking, and with the fresh oil film on it there is no more clicking noise for the second time... Transmission experts?

As for the engine, no rough noise at all. AWD, regular 87 octane.

Clicking sound fixed

I had the same problem, especially when the car sat for a while. It also happened when accelerating from a complete stop.

The dealer removed all four drive axle nuts and pushed in grease. Also applied anti-sieze to axle splines. No more noise

Mine is all AWD.

Ok I just spoke to the dealer! They said the splines are split on my axles on both sides!

Question? Do you all have stock wheels and what size wheels do you have? They are saying mine is due to the weight of my wheels.

Please answer these questions so I can fight this!

You have got to be kidding me. My wheels are the stock 20s as well. It seems that this may be a weak link on the cx-9. Stands to reason that if they replace with the current stock parts that this will continue to occur. Three strikes and then lemon law. If this is the case then Mazda needs to replace with a better part than current stock. I wonder if this issue will begin to cause major accidents not to mention bodily injury or even death.

Yes all 07's But it may or may not be the same axels but would take a few miles for the problem to accure. Which would be why no 08's have this problem yet.

My next problem with this is if it is the weight of my wheels than what would happen if you towed something regularly?

So, is it the actual axel that is split or is it the hub splines? Im wondering why mine does it when it is cold only? Good luck and keep us posted. Ill try to get into the dealer next week.

Hey OMF, I tried what you are saying. With engine cold I put it in reverse. (click) I then moved back in reverse about five feet and put back to park. I tried to make the clicking sound several times by putting it in reverse-park-reverse-nutral-reverse-drive. It would not make the noise again. Maybe somthing to do with tdranny fluid. Even if its this simple I wonder if it will cause problems in the future?

Clicking sound

Mine is an '07 GT with the 20" stock wheels. The dealer said nothing about the splines being split. It has been a week since they greased the parts and no noise since. Let me know what happens.
