Clear Corner Lenses??

Is there a way to take the amber lenses out of the headlamp? Because I want to have completely clear headlamps, but don't wanna buy P5 ones. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Take your headlight assembly completely out of the car.

Around the edge of the front clear lense there will be a bead of adhesive. Using a heat gun, melt away the adhesive, and pry away the lense. Please be careful.

Once you have the lense off, the amber reflector should be able to be heated slightly and popped out.

Clean the edges of the headlight assembly and the lense, remove any extra adhesive and clean them both with alcohol, to remove any fingerprints. They must be spotless.

Using Silicone Auto/Boat adhesive, bond the lense back to the headlight assembly and clamp them together.

Let dry for 24 hours.

hey Kincaid.....in your pics you have the yellow lenses..when have u dpone this operation or is this just your opinion???....does anyone else have any info on this topic??

I haven't done it too mine. I've never had time too.

My buddy did it to his and this is his explanation of how to do it.

I tried to do it to mine this past weekend and gave up. I got the complete headlight out, but I couldn't get the covers off. I didn't heat it though. Can you use a hair dryer or do you need a heat gun? And will the heat gun harm the head light lenses? By the way, to take off the headlights, you will need to take the bumper completely off. It isn't too hard though. Let me know about that heat gon or not. I'll try again.

You guys don't like the all black housing? :( I think ours look better than the P5's. It would be easies to buy some P5 headlamps.

Acutally it would not be easiest to change to P5 lights. As this requires a different wiring harness to be installed.

And Ben unfortunately a hair dryer will not work. It does not focus the heat enough in one area to be effective. But you do have to be VERY careful so as to not damage the lenses.

I'm also going to take this opportunity to put a disclaimer here that says: I'm not responsible for any damage incurred if you do this to your vehicle.

Hope this info helps.

I know that we all want that orange reflector removed but please realize that the P5 headlamps don't have the side marker in there lamp assembly they have it on the fender in front of the wheel the point is that in somes states maybe all there has to be some kind of light in front of the wheel, so I have been putting my thoughts together and I plan on taking the headlight apart and put some type of clear reflector in it's place so that I can still have some type of marker on the side maybe with blue or yellow bulbs I still plan on changing the color in the turn signal housing as well. Just my two cents if I am wrong about the head lamps please let me know.

Yep, In many states it is required to have an amber turn signal in front of the wheels. The MP3 side marker on the fenders won't cut it. If you remove the reflector as per above and make sure you ahve amber bulbs then there won't be any legality problems.

The reason the side marker was put on the MP3 was because the headlight doesn't really have a light bulb in the amber area of the headlight. The light from the headlight lights up the amber area. That's also why the Protege 5 has that little light in the front fender. Yes you have to have some kind of side marker, that's why there is one in the fender.

You can change to Protege 5 headlights but as mentioned before, your gonna have chenge the headlight set-up. The Protege 5 has seperate bulbs for high and low beams.

It does have a bulb in there. I saw it when I tried to take out the amber lens. If the headlight lit it up, the headlight would blink when you have your turn signal on. I'm going to get a heat gun this weekend and try it again. I'll let everyone know how it goes. ;)

im sure you could take it to a body shop and have them do it...but if you have to pay more than 50 bucks id just take the few hours to do it yourself...

kep0, the labor rates in the body shop biz are a minimum of $38 an hour so, if it takes a"few" hours it gonna be more than $50!
Plus some shops wont want the posibility of this being an ilegal mod.{depending on local law}
dont get mad its just my 2cents and Im a body shop mgr.

hehe...not mad...so i guess theres your answer mp3chikn...DIY~! only way to go...

I'll try to do mine again this weekend. I hope I dont break anything. Try to think of something I can do to the headlight if I do break it so that I can take it to the dealer and tell them it just got messed up. The only thing I'm worried about is it not being sealed back the way it was and then water vapor will get in there. That will suck. Just let me know if there is anything you want me to do to your car, I'll be free these next few weekends that I'm still here in AL. Just email me or give me a call. :D
