Has anyone ever done this and can you help me out with it.

I need to rewire both cigarette lighters to run when the car is off. Both lights I have emergency lighting switches in them. Currently I cant keep the lighting on while my car is off while onscene when I first respond to calls. This makes it hazardous when i end up leaving my car roadside and transport a patient if the other emts need help. My older explorer I was able to run the lights whenever i wanted. I dont want to have to hardwire these lights but will if it comes to it.

If someone has the wiring setup to splice them whcih to which. Also any help on taking the console apart to get tho those wires would be helpful. Of course when they car is ff and the lights r not in use i dont want the car to go dead thinking it needs to send juice to something that doesnt need it.

Sorry for any confusion. i am not great at this electrical stuff. Thanks in advance

easiest thing would be to run the wires from your steering column for the constant. i don't remember the colors off hand, but there is a switched wire, a constant and a ground.

honestly though it would be easier to wire to the battery.

just buy a cigarette lighter splitter and cut the male end off, the run wires from the battery to the female ends.

Don't forget to put an inline fuse on the positive wire close to the battery. You wouldn't want to get a short somewhere and burn up your car. A small amplifier install kit would actually have what you need as far as wiring goes. You would still need to hook up an on/off switch on the power wire.

true dat. i simplified my answer significantly.

So far, all the parts that we're talking about here can be found at your local RadioShack; wiring, 12v outlet, inline fuse holders... If you're lucky, you'll find one with an associate/manager that will know what you're trying to do and set you up with exactly what you need.

I managed a couple RSs for years, so I have to stick up for them every once in a while...
