Checked my transmission mount today...

I finally got the chance to check my transmission mount today.

Pulled the battery and housing and then checked to see what the bolt was torqued to. It started backing off somewhere between 45 and 55 ft-lb (I was moving in increments of 10).

Just wanted to post this in case anyone was trying to keep track of the stats on these bolts.

On a secondary note.. has anyone else noticed the ridiculous amount of dust/bugs/crap that gets blown directly into the battery box??? I'm thinking about putting a small filter over the top of the air hole.. I don't want to have to pull the battery out in a few years and find 3 Inches of dirt down there...
 
Just pull the lid, cover your face and eyes, then air compress the s*** out of it.

I to checked my bolt but didnt wrench on it at all. I just checked that it was flush and clean looking which it was.
 
I want to check this mount. This is the Number 4 mount, I think, accoring to the workshop manual..

I have trouble getting the battery tray out. Battery, no problem, but those PCM (ECU?) connectors are a b****, and I don't want to hurt anything. I'm sure once I know just how to disconnect them, it'll make sense, but I'm stuck at that step..

The ECU connectors have a white plastic handle, folded over towards the passenger side. Put a screwdriver between the handle and the body of the conntector to release the latch and pull up on the handle. Connectors then just pull out.
 
Awwww, they have something like a "service hole" innit..

I'll try that, thanks. Electrical connectors always make me wary, what with their non-servicability by the owner/user..

OK, this is my project for this afternoon. Hopefully I can get all the way down to the bolts & "mount number 4"!

Checked it, seems fine. Still, if there is a recall I'll have the dealer check it as well. Couldn't hurt to have some documentation..

And yeah, lots of dirt, sand and bugs under the battery. A small piece of A/C filter material would keep most of it out, I reckon.. Tape it to the inside of the battery cover with some gaffer's tape - gaffer's tape should be fine for that purpose, I think, and it will come off cleanly in 6 months, a year..

Eek! I'm a clean freak so I think you should be using a Shop-Vac for this sort of thing. Blowing the dirt around just lets it re-settle, correct? Suck it up and put it in the landfill, never enough landfill..
