Check plugs for detonation????

How do you check your spark plugs for signs of detonation? Even though AFR's might be in a safe range with a BC controller, a boost controller doesn't control fuel timing and detonation can occur from the lack of adjusted timing. For the time being I'm playing it safe and have my unit turned off. I would feel a little more comfortable turning on my boost controller for spirited forays if i knew how to check my plugs for signs of impending disaster.
