I just recently got a 2008 MS3 and I have 1xxx miles on it and its 100% stock.

I was just switching lanes on the interstate and downshifted to 5th to pass another car and when I got on the off ramp i noticed the CEL blinking.

I took it to a local car dealership "mazdas farrrr away" and they checked the codes and it was a "supercharger" overboost. Im assuming meaning same as turbo overboost. and a random misfire.

what do you think did this?

I had them clear the codes and am going to see if it happens again, and if so i will get my lazy ass to mazda.

remember its 100% stock and all vacuum lines and sensors are in place.

Thanks

You know, the "blinking CEL" is sort of a bad thing. You shouldn't had that cleared, and just taken it to Mazda. Solid CEL is non-critical, blinking a lot more urgent.

well it blinked when it first came on and then went to solid. my honda did the same thing, I thought that was just because it was throwing a "new" code and just to let you know. I may stand corrected though.

does that clear things up? or is it still bad that it was blinking just for a minute then went to solid?

Thanks.

hey man i have the same problem.. i actually went to mazda with my cai cuz i gotta CEL.. i noticed that my car jerks/stumble when i'm cruising.. they tried voiding my warranty and charging me 105 dollars so i got pissed and told the service advisor off. he didn't even charge me, he just released my car.. i headed to autozone, they do the check for free.. the dude said i have a random misfire. im gonna put my stock air box back and bring it to mazda

did u have the boost spike problem too?

Im glad to hear though, that you did not get your warantee voided, and am glad to hear you didnt pay them 105 dollars for a car under warantee! some dealerships are horrible these days.

a blinking CEL is the misfire.

sounds like you need to get some new plugs via warranty and get them gapped properly

Well, I figured that the misfire had something to do with the overboost problem.

I just installed a boost gauge, and notice that if I get on it in a high gear the boost will spike to about 17- 17.5 and then drop to 14 and hold steady.

I have not had the problem happen again since then, but I should take it to the dealer and let them know about the problem.

Thanks
