this one's for those of you who have modified your mp3s, what in your opinion is the best mod for the least money, does cai really do that much, I want something not too expensive (<1000) that will give me the most significant hp gain. So any advice from anyone who has experience modding their car let me know what is the best bang for your buck improvement. thanks!

most bang for buck is of course, n2o. im sure you know of the problems many of the mp3ers have encountered with the funny gas (WHOA WHERED THE REST OF MY PISTON GO?!?)...so use it with extreme caution. only other choice is a turbo, but definitely out of the price range you specified. do they make 25-35 shots of n2o? im pretty sure the engine could handle that...any more than 40 might be trouble...i think linuxracr blew it on 50? or was it 60.

as kepone said...if performance is all you care about, and not really reliability.....or the worry that all of a sudden you are going to need a new motor.....N2O.

the ABSOLUTE most that anyone will recommend is a 50 shot, and then use the smaller jets to take it back to about a 35.

and IF you run it wrong...you can still melt things.

let your WALLET be your guide.

like the sign in the speed shop says

"speed cost money, how fast do you want to go"

i would say get

1. AEM Intake ($200)
2. Get the diameter of your piping from your manifold to your muffler and remove the resonator and 2nd cat ($130)
3.J spec cams.... ($280if you get them through mitch buckner(sp?))
4. get a sheet of aluminum and make a ram air heat shield ( $12)

Thats $620 well under 1g and you can spend the rest on something else or save up your money for something bigger

Wow, it looks like N20 gets a really bad rap around these boards, mostly by people who don't have it. I've had a NOS kit on my car for 4 months or so, and I use that crap all day (on the way to work cause I'm late, on the way home toasting some civic, etc.) Our engines can take a lot of crap, and a little 50 shot of gas into your intake won't blow your engine if it's installed properly *wink* *wink*

Without a doubt, hands down, best bang for your buck. N20.

That four month number needs to be thought about too. Linux had his installed wrong, MP3 owner didn't. I think MP3 owner had his around the end of last year. So thats Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, then we saw that he was getting his engine replaced. Hmmmm.....4 months, point of this is he didn't think it was doing anything to his pistons either. It was probably slowly weakening them until they had had enough. The MP3 is more prone to bad things with N2o because of it's advanced timing though. But if I were you, I'd be careful with the N2O. Take the advice or don't, I don't care. I'll be boosted in about 4 weeks and I will blow away any MP3 or Protege on the bottle. But I'll do it without having to worry about my engine.
