Last week my car was making an awful sound. When I would really step on it in 1st or second and the revs would hit 5500-6000 or so this clacking/metallic sound would come from the engine. I don't think it was engine knock/ping but I put a couple of tanks of premium in it and it seems to have gone away. Am I going to have to use premium from now on? About 3 or 4 days before this happened I put a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in. Did this cause my problem? Should I take it to the dealer to get checked out? Thanks for any help.

if you read the manual, it tells you to stay away from all fuel additives. What you probally had was just engine ping. it should go away once all the crap in your engine is gone.

Yea, the manual tells me to have my oil filter changed at the dealer too. I take what they all say with a grain of salt. One more tank of premium and I'm going to go back to regular and see what happens.

the fuel cleaner was probably your problem...it rarely mixes evenly throughout the gas tank, and can cause some detonation problems for a little while...

Also you really don't need that s*** anyway...In some bad cases the companies making the fuel additive go with a polar solution (like water), and gasoline being non-polar (like soap and oil), they do not mix at all and the polar liquid sits on top (hence why it does not mix evenly)...once the polar liquid is sucked through the fuel pump it attempts to dissolve the s*** in the fuel filter and send it into the engine...Any decent gasoline has detergents designed to keep the fuel injection system clean...Unless you always drive the tank empty (particles in the bottom of the tank can become lodged in the fuel pump) or you have 120,000 miles without ever changing the fuel filter you are most likely fine...FWIW what were the conditions when this happened meaning, temperature, humidity, etc...and double check you cooling system to make sure the engine wasn't running on the hot side...
