EVERY CAR NEEDS THERE OWN SECTIONS and sub catagories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that there isn't enough post volume to warrant this. If a new member comes along, say he owns an MP3. Of course he's going to gravitate towards the MP3 sections. He'll go over to the 'performance' section, and see that there's been 10 posts in the past two weeks. If it were me, I'd be bummed that there's so little going on in my section.

Now, if all of the performance posts are together, EVERYONE will benefit, because:

1) More people will be seeing your posts; you'll have more replies. You don't need to own an specific car to answer questions about other Proteges.

2) New members will want to stay. They'll see the forum is very active, and they'll want to contribute more.

Of course, if the board ever gets so large that there's simply too many posts to wade through in each forum, then create sections for each car and start moving posts. But we're not even close to that yet.

wow this thread went downhill.

oddly enough, however, most people will never read this far, but yet the more people attempt to flame me, the better, because this thread keeps getting bumped.

You're, absolutely, correct!

my theory was somewhat simliar before. post all the performance stuff together, and people will be able to search for everything in one section. but people disagreed

but at the same time, if u got about 4 differen model cars on one forum it gets filled with so much mess....some times the search function is s***, u cant get specific information so u end up havin to post a new thread, filling he forum with more s***, when u have sections for each model, yeh ull have less posts, thats the point, i rather look thru 5 posts dealin with just the msp then 30 dealin with the msp, p5, mp3 etc etc......i dont care if there isnt active posts in my section, if i do for some odd reason ill just post a question?? i dont think thats a good point to keep just one forum for all the models on this forum...

see how we are bouncing back and forth? i think thats prolly why the changes have never been implemented.

OK...this thread just took a major turn uphill. This is the kind of posts we need....constructive criticism on each other's ideas, so the board can be changed (if needed) to better the forum as a whole.

Let's keep it up! I know more people have ideas, so let's hear them.

I wasn't going to do this but I feel the need to speak. I disagree with the sub-catagorizing of the MSP section. I see it as a need to post in the proper section to begin with. I have Tokico struts off of an MP3/MSP on my car. If I wanted to get info regarding this I wouldn't be looking for it in the MSP section since IT ISN'T MSP SPECIFIC. Everything on our Proteges whether it be MSP, P5, MP3 are almost intirely interchangable. This is why I, like Matthew, surf from the right hand column of new posts. I might find something very useful that was posted in the wrong forum that i would never be able to find any other way. Also, things are discussed before I realize that I want to know more and I would have never known about it had I stayed in the P5 section.

Update: The MSP section is slated for 'cleaning' starting tomorrow morning. Check the sticky thread in the MSP section.

Why not have broken down sections for each model (mp3, P5, MSP), and then also have a general protege section for people who want to ask something that pertains to all proteges and/or get a alternate viewpoint? I agree that the search function is a little difficult to get specific info, especially for new people I imagine. Also, I've noticed that the msp threads that should've maybe been posted elsewhere, get more replies and views than the ones that are in say, forced induction, or appearance.

What would really rock is if someone could delete the unrelated posts in this thread, because there is some relevant feedback buried in all the flaming =)

I no longer know what a good resolution might be... perhaps a different forum altogether that's focused soley on the MSP, like Autobox is offering? I just hate to see this well-positioned forum (search-wise) go to waste... erm, meaning that it's a valuable source of information - whether divided or not, and I'm sure this will remain the greatest source of information for MSP owners online for a long time to come.

My initial impression coming here was "finally, a car enthusiast forum that's filled with mature and knowledgeable folks! Awesome..." And the answers I've recieved from the questions I've asked have totally rocked. To be a total n00b and yet get treated so nicely is refreshing, I'd only hoped to help foster the community and make it even better, and in so doing make a little contribution of my own as a way of saying "thanks" - my mistake. I can see now that perhaps I shouldn't have said anything...

My apologies for unwittingly opening these floodgates. I'd suggest having the mods shut this post down and keeping the forums as is... even though the voting shows a favor towards sub-categorization, there is enough heated vocal opposition to the idea that it seems pretty clear this would only segregate and fragment this community. I'll drift into the background now and just watch things and keep me ideas to me self :D

Peace fellas, enjoy what you have in common and let the past die away.

as he said, the forums are gonna be cleaned again by pat tommorrow. but kept the same.

Let's wait and see how this works. Be sure to wait a couple of days after the cleanup to let the dust settle before you voice your final opinion on the change.

But by all means, keep the discussion here open, great ideas are being tossed back and forth.

No matter what is done or not done, not everyone will be 100% happy. But by discussing the options here, the best solution can be figured out.

Try modding at gamefaqs.com. We moderate around 3000 posts/topics a day and there is an entire board filled with people calling us mods nazi's. Hell there are "tiger8191 is a <insert any flame>" websites out there just because I deleted, moved, or closed some asses post on a internet website.

I have to say that the maturity level on this entire site is so much higher than at gamefaqs. Maybe because there are less 13 year mazda owners...=)

wanna know something funny? this can be backed up by several staff members if they have the balls (i know at least 1st mp3 in nh will).

i was made mod of the msp section after i cleaned up the p5 section in one night. before i started cleaning up the section, i asked advice of all the staff in the staff only section on what should be moved, merged, deleted, etc. i was given input AND the go ahead to do so.

i commenced to moving all irrelevant and repeated threads, and merged similar threads. i started off by leaving a polite note as to why each post was being moved, so the owners could find it.

guess what? at one point in a span of 15 minutes there were three exact same threads, in the msp section no less, flaming me for moving posts.

but even better - as soon as the flaming started, the majority of the staff on this board went and hid like a bunch of bitches and denied ever telling me to go ahead with the cleanup, and none except craig (1st mp3) had the balls to stand up and admit that he as well as others supported the moves.

but yet EVEN better - there was another msp mod moving posts AT THE SAME EXACT time as me, i dont know who it was, but they were working the exact same pages. how do i know? because when i would go to move a thread, it would say it had already been moved while i was reading it. but guess what? no one admitted to moving other threads because they were too afraid to get flamed.

THAT is why i was removed as a mod. because Enry and Antoine (he was outta town however), despite the support from the staff, as soon as the flaming began and the bitching began, got scared. just so you guys know and arent jaded.

OK, I only read up to this post and Jersey's post before it regarding moderation of the MSP section...I'm not going to read any further because I'm going to bed.

However, I will say this -- what Mathew just stated is true and it is the exact reason why this problem exists today! The simple fact is, the MSP section would be fine and just like all the other sections if Antoine would allow it to be moderated - and I mean really moderated. Right now we just have "token" moderation where only 1 or 2 threads are moved per day. I'm not sure if that's the mods being lazy or Antoine's order and I don't really care -- all I know is that is the reason the MSP section sucks.

Simple solution: Moderate the section just like all other sections.
"Plan B solution": break the MSP section up or seperate it off somehow.

Good night all.

That is true but the reason gamfaqs sucks and the moderators are hated is because you can't get away with ANYTHING. You look at somebody cross-eyed and you will be moderated and lose "karma." It's :bs:

well they consistently show us that they think they are above us and need their own section.

Why does everyone keep giving us MSP owners a bad name????

I voted yes for subsections in the MSP section, not because I think we're better or that I don't want to associate myself with P5 owners but because......drumroll please......I don't have time to check EVERY section, EVERY day!

It's nice going to one section and knowing that it will pertain to your car or your turbo. If I want to peruse the other sections, I can do that when I have time.

Now I don't think that the MSP needs it's own HOW TO section or PHOTO/VIDEO section. These are things that can be shared with the community at large. But what's so wrong with organizing the most popular section into subsections so people can find what they want quickly?

Not everyone has internet access all hours of the day, or have time to check it anytime they want. Please be considerate of those people, and not punish them simply because you think all MSP owners are immature punks.

Rules like that are there to keep the majority of the users there from ruining the site. The reason this site's "problems" pale in comparison and why strict rules are not needed is because the users here are older and, well, much more mature.

If this site had to deal with 4000 13 year olds posting on it's site each day, I would suspect the rules here would be just as strict. Seems to me the rules reflect the patrons. If you have older, more mature users, the rules are more lenient, but if you have unruly users who want to post pr0n links and crap, then the rules need to be stricter for the overall enjoyment and purpose of the site.

If gamefaqs was doing something wrong then they wouldn't have the increasing userbase. Not evern 3 years ago there was around 300 users online on average throughout the day, now over 4000. Can't "suck" too much. =)

The rules are soon to change though.
