Change to stock tire pressure, or just BSing me.

Work Order:"Customer states that the tire pressure monitor light was flashing then came on steady. Now is off"

Tech:"Checked and found fault code J2617 wheel unit 2 is not responding. Low pressure found in wheel 2 31PSI set tire pressures to 35psi. Set tire pressures to 35 psi in all tires and reset tire pressure sensor and cleared code. Wheel 2 is rear driver side wheel. At this time the sensor is performing to specs. If fault returns will need to order new TPM sensor."

Service writer tells me when I pick up the car that there are new updated tire pressures for the car, 35psi all around. I say Oh OK, can you give me something in writing from Mazda that says that. He ummms and ahhhs and then says the printer in back is not working and so he cant give me anything.

I almost asked for a new door jamb sticker with the new psi's as Im pretty sure it is required by DOT, but dont bother as I dont want to piss them off.

I say he is BSing me so they dont have to do the TPMS sensor under warranty yet, what do you think?

Why would the tech document 35 psi all round when the tire pressures are supposed to be 34/32 ??

Yep, I'd definitely want some documentation on that one. The shop manual I just got says the same as the tire placard, 34F/32R

just have them write it on your work order. you should always keep a copy of anything they do or recommend. i like to run 3lbs. OVER both front and back. (37/35) i check it once a month. todays tires are made to take more than people fret over. underinflated is where your problems begin.
