Change the Alternator on a 2000 Protoge ES, 1.8L, 5sp

I started by removing my old alternator and disconnecting the cables. But how and where do you get it out from under the motor? I can't get it to come out from the bottom. Does anybody have a tip or know how on what I have to do to get the old 1 out and the new one in?

I know you have to disconnect the exhaust at the catalytic and move it out of the way before you can get it through the bottom.

The only way to change the alternator is to unbolt the exhaust? OP can you let us know what you had to do to remove it?
