CBE or TBE system...

I am getting my first mod to my 2010 MS3 which is going to be either a TBE or CBE system but i do not know if the TBE is worth the extra money. The corksport CBE is 700 which sounds nice and has good power gain and the CP-E TBE is 1350 with the cat...both sound nice but is the TBE worth the ectra 650$?

There are NO power gains to be had with any aftermarket CBE on an MS3 with the stock turbo. NONE.

The stock CBE flows better than the max exhaust flow rate of the turbo on the '07-'09 models and this is likely true for the '10. Mazda got the CBE right.

The exhaust restrictions are bad, but they are all ahead of the CBE. To make power on the exhaust side you have to remove the horrible sharp right angle shape of the stock downpipe and the two low flow cats.

That means an aftermarket dp and rp, catted or catless. You will get a serious power gain that way.

CBE upgrade only changes sound on this car unless you have mods pushing you beyond 300 whp or about 340 crank hp. That requires a bigger turbo and custom ecu tune.

BTW: Your first mod should be on the intake side, not exhaust. The stock airbox is extremely restrictive. Any good aftermarket intake will gain you almost 20 horsepower. You need to create more airflow into the engine before any exhaust mods would be worthwhile for power gains, anyway.

thanks a lot...this is my first fast car so im still learning about the engine and everything like that...i was looking at ordering a cobb DP and cpe nano SRI with the inlet pipe first...again, thanks for the info it helped me not waste A LOT of money haha

On topic: I am going corksport TBE w/Hiflow cat as one of my next mods. But it is my understanding you'll need a tune after the dp upgrade...so set aside some money for that too.

I don't want anything above 18psi so I'm doing tbe, bc, and protune. it will be a lot of money (compared to just an upgraded TMIC, for instance) but I think all three of those mods go together.

i know you need a tune for a new exhaust so it runs to its full potential but im pretty sure tunes void your warranty...?

I thought a new dp voided, as well. idk - the dealership will tell you putting purple washer fluid in it will void the warranty...I honestly don't know what does or doesn't - but if you have concerns about voiding factory warranty; I'd keep the mods to a min.

Tune NOT needed for dp. Don't know where people come up with that. Put over 30,000 miles on my catless dp/rp. Just recently added HT tune. Nice improvement, but not necessary.

Dp will void warranty, but so will any intake except MSCAI.
