"Carpet" already worn 3000 miles.

So I just vacummed out my wife's car. The Carpet (if you can even call it that) is already showing wear under the gas pedal. The floor mats do not cover this spot. The furry glued on stuff is worn off so there is a bald spot. Also noticed, be careful vacumming the door grabs. There is a piece of felt that lines them but it is not glued or stuck down in any way,its just thrown in there. I will stick those down when I get a chance. The plastics are starting to get scratched up too. The cost cutting becomes more and more aparant the more I own this car. Its too bad because I was considering getting a second one for myself but the short cuts are starting to bother me. I love how it rides, handles etc but I'm already dreading what this car will look like in 3 years.

Agreed! I mentioned this in the "gripes" thread and got blasted for hatin'. The CX-7's interior durability had me worried before I even purchased it. That appears to be Mazda's direction: Great drive, great looks, cheap materials. It is pretty darn discouraging that you can't even blow $30k on a car these days and get great quality. I'm not just picking on Mazda, because unfortunately they're not alone.

And before people jump to defend Mazda: Plastic and carpet quality are not big-hitting items in a car's cost, so improving their quality would have hardly impacted MSRP. It's not like Mazda had a choice between offering us standard airbags and decent carpet.

Carpet sucks period. They need to change out this carpet. You can't even vaccuum hard enough with out worrying about "scratching" and eating up the carpet.

Maybe we can get a recall on the carpet(I wish)....it is so cheap I see how it will look bad in a years time....I have rubber mats I bought because I feared how it would look after a rough winter.....I am a Mazda fan and this is my 3rd one in a row and I have to say the carpet is way below par than any other Mazda I have owned. Do we all send letters to corporate!!??

I sent an email today referring them to these forums, explaining the problem and asking if and how it will be addressed. Probably a waste of time but I gave it a shot. Its too bad. I am really interested in the new 6 when it comes out, and am even considering getting another CX-7 for myself. But if the material quality is this shotty I'll pass and get another VW or maybe something else. Despite having a few minor problems with the VW's I've owned they never had anything major break, and my 4 year old Jetta still looks brand new inside and out. I dont mean to keep comparing my car to Mazda but it amazes me how one manufacturer can do something like carpeting so right and another gets it totally wrong. Its carpet how hard is it to figure out. This will be bad for resale value as well if the interior looks like crap after a year.

So the other 2007 Mazda's all have better carpet? I figured they all used the same.

I am about to trade in my 2004 Mazda3 Sport GT - we actually had the dealer replace the carpet twice over the course of the past 3 years) we are definitely not hard on our vehicle, but the carpet actually ripped in the exact same spot twice due to the carpet not fitting the installation (both factory and subsequent service had the same deficiency). this last time around it seems to have worked ok... the bonus for us is the carpet looks brand new (and is) on trade. Wish I could say the same about the winshield... we replaced it once and within a week had another crack about 3 feet long across it... DAMNED ROCKS! In any event, we don't need to replace the windshield on trade and got as part of the deal - when we got hit with another big rock in the windshield creating this starburst the size of a quarter last week (after making the deal), I started laughing as it wasn't an issue.

My response from Mazda today...Maybe can get it replaced under warranty if it's bad....mine is not yet but it may be in a year or so.Hello Wendy,

Thanks for contacting Mazda. I appreciate the opportunity to respond
to you.

I am pleased you took the time to bring your observations regarding the
carpeting in your CX-7 to our attention. Consumer feedback is always
very important to Mazda. Certainly, we want to offer exciting vehicles,
and comments such as yours help us to achieve that goal.

Rest assured I have documented your e-mail for our corporate record.
These records are continuously being reviewed by our Product Planning
Department in an effort to provide only the highest quality products to
our customers.

Should you feel the carpeting is sufficiently wore as to be a
warrantable item, please visit your dealership and have the Service Manager take
a look at it. Since we cannot physically inspect your carpeting we
rely on the factory-trained technicians at authorized Mazda dealerships to
diagnose concerns that may arise with a Mazda vehicle.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to reply
to this matter.

> Hi. I have a CX 7 and have written before usually with praise for
the Mazda vehicles and I do have lots of praise for the CX 7, but one
item that really disappoints and seems way below par on this vehicle is
the carpet. I never noticed until I first cleaned my vehicle how cheap
and how badly it wears down even after one vaccuming. I have over 8000
miles now on it and I think if I did not have my rubber mats protecting
the carpet that within the year it would look horrible and be worn
away. I have had two other Mazda's...The RX 8 and the Protege 5 and never
had this issue. I understand cost cutting to bring us a car that has
the zoom, zoom etc, but one area that is huge is the carpet...if that
looks or goes bad the car looks bad. I am a big Mazda fan and have
brought many people over to the Mazda family because of my enthusiasm. Is
there any way we can rectify this problem? I know this may be a pain but
it really needs to be looked at and also improved for future buyers.
Thanks.

I have had mine for 7+ months with 11k on it. The carpet on the driver's side is really starting to wear especially in the heavy duty spots. I had so far zero problems with the car but the carpeting is simply unacceptable. I am afraid a replacement with a similar carpet is only going to buy another year's time so I am going to wait until the last minute before I raise the issue with Mazda.

Mind you before I noticed this I wholeheartedly stood behind the product but this really sours it for me.

Wow Glynn N. and Jeff D. think alike. Their emails are almost identical. Makes you wonder if anything will really happen or if there is just a High School internal adding bits and peices to a form letter.

Capret Update

Well 11 months and 10,000 miles, the carpet now has a full 2 inch gash under the Gas pedal. I will be bringing this up at the next service. I already know the answer is going to be that it will come back every year because the "carpet" is complete junk. You cant even vaccum without scratching the stuff. If I can get a replacement Im going to put a piece of felt over the area to prevent it from wearing again. Unless anyone else has nay solutions.

AT LAST!... A complaint I can share in! Our carpet is also showing wear after only 5300 miles. Ahhh... I belong now. (group)

Old thread... my carpet is worn through completely in that area. I feel sorry for whoever buys this vehicle after my lease is done... so many problems... lol.

I have floor mats but they do not cover the area right below the gas pedal. Ill see where I get with the dealer. But Im also not to excited about them taking the interior apart to replace the carpet. I believe its all one piece.
Has anyone else complained to their dealer on this one?
