Carbon Fiber rear upper window spoiler? DGM are you listening!?

The problem with the vortex generator is that is not for our cars, so it would have to be custom made...get the EVO one for the fins, but then have to be molded to our roof line. This would complete my EVO aereo package conversion, hehehe.

I contacted *************.com about the WW piece and they told me that the piece is still available, but is special order. I would be willing to donate that spoiler (when I buy it, which is very soon by the way) to the people at DG Motorsports to have them make a mold for you guys.

There we go! that's a start :)
Next is to show DG that there is enough interest for them to do the molding.

I should have bought one of those upper wings when I could have.

Carbon would be cool.

A Vortex Generator would be really lame however. :-/

Okay, thats your opinion. It will be disregarded since it really serves no purpose to the thread. Back on topic, anyone really think DG would make something like this in CF if enough interest is there? Has anyone contacted Amie or John from DG and asked this personally? If I knew for sure that they would indeed make this part, I would buy the WW piece just to have the mold for the CF one to be made. Then I would definately swap it for the CF piece to go along with the CF trunk lid Im about to get. Maybe someone should contact one or both of the people and ask??

add me to the list as long as it's NOT in CF, fiberglass or uruthane would be good enough for me

However, if a company made a vortex generator and didn't do so in a wind tunnel then it' would be rice any way you look at it.

A rear upper wing thing is a good idea. I didn't care for the WW due to the material it was made out of. Fiberglass and carbon fiber would be cool though. I probably wouldn't do CF, but painted fibergalss I'd like to do.

Well with all due respect...that is a contradictory statement...I do understand that DG wont use a wind tunnel to do our little vortex generator, but why, when Mitsubishi already did. The little wing is just a decorative item...so it too would be considered rice.

Well you're not reading into what I'm saying deep enough I guess. Just because it's visual doesn’t make it rice... you and I both obviously don't think that way. ;)

But it's when something like a big wing that doesn’t do anything, that's when it becomes "rice". To have the little vortex titties on it just for visual reasons is rice. There is a purpose to those pieces, not just to look like a lizard.

I don't mean to split hairs here, but putting fake things on your car to make it look racy is just not cool.

I drive a 100whp wagon that has a factory "body kit", big fog lights, and shiny things under the hood (header, intake, etc) that don't actually make the car any faster (not much of a noticeable change).. oh and my calipers are painted.. so I win the rice contest :)

edit: I do know what you mean though, when you add parts to the car to make it look moAR fastar! ... but they don't actually do anything other than that.

But if you like the way something looks you should definitely not let "people from the internet" stop you :)

The way that I understood "rice" as being was decorative items on a car that serve no real purpose except to make the car more eye-appealing. But wouldn't this piece actually help with overall airflow going over the vehicle. Yes, the spoiler would be a decorative and make the car a little more eye-appealing, but it would in fact serve a purpose. Right?

Well actually, I have the award from our last state meet to prove Im the "Biggest Ricer". Until Im de-throned, which I don't mind being at all, I hold the title of Most Rice.

Dang board freezing up... I lost all my writing just now.

I spoke to Amie today about this... she said they probably wouldn't do something like this unless they received some pre-orders, but it wasn't out of the question to have made. They still have their yellow P5 too.

No, I guess that doesn't help us get a sedan wing made... does it?

Forgive me, apparently I'm completely retarded... :shakes-head:

The vortex generator is not a "fake thing", it is a functional item when conbined with a functional wing. Mitsubishi did all the work which in the Evo generated over 100-lbs of extra force on the rear at 60mph. The Wings West rear spoiler is a appearance item, no purpose, it doesnt even give your rear passengers shade on their heads...in comparison Subaru couldnt do a vortex generator because it would be considered copying your rival manufacturer so they had to come up with a functional "wind guide" huge roof spoiler.

;)

Speaking of rice...I'am a high-end ricer (first)

Dude, I never said that.... I know it was designed to function on the EVO's and that's what I was saying. You just can't slap it on and assume it works on a Protege. That was my whole point. These are Proteges, not EVO's we are talking about.

As I said, unless you designed it in a wind tunnel (which no one is going to do for these cars) it will not be functional.

I dont know if you have seen these cars side by side...they are almost identical on shape and size...I bet it does exactly as designed even on another car.
