Car safety/nannyisms :)

Another little nanny moment for me (I swear I'm not a bad driver). I was letting the car roam a bit within the lane, to see how much actual steering impact the LKA has (I know it buzzes the steering wheel), when a flashing all caps message came up on the HUD. Something like "PLEASE KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL".

Hahaha.

Ooooh I like that!

Hahaha yeah, I didn't realize just how often I used to do that. It hasn't happened to me in over a week now, which means that i'm breaking a habit that I didn't know I had.

Be glad that the nanny is working and is on the ball! (lol)

One very nice thing that I've noticed about the CX-5 is how little steering input it needs to hold a line. On a nice straight road I can take my hands off of the steering wheel and it will hold that line for a long time.

YMMV

It does it instantly if you take your hands off the wheel even in a straight line. It knows because it has a strain gauge in the column that can measure the tiniest inputs that it would normally use to determin how much the electric power assistance needs to be applied. Just having one hand on the wheel is enough for it to detect contact. Now of course, we'll have somebody trying to beat it but don't crash while you are playing!

I miss the days when we only had to worry about the ones who were holding the steering wheels... Now I have to worry about the ones who are not steering. (help)

I have tested it, and it is amazing - it seems to be able to detect even the slightest touch - I have tried it with just one finger lightly touching the steering wheel and it doesnt get upset. But take that finger off the wheel and instantly you get the warning and beeping.

They weren't steering properly in the past either be it with their hands, knees/gut etc or not at all.
