Mazda MP3 - Blue
Hey. It seems that Mazda USA can give out the unit number of their MP3 but no one has been able to get them for the Canadian MP3s. We know that there is 1500 units (1-1500) in the US, and the other 250 are in Canada (1501-1750).

I was checking out things on the internet and found a site describing how a Mazda VIN number was layed out. It seems that the last 6 digits of the vin is the car number.

With this we may be able to figure out the order (or pretty close) of the last 250 MP3s and who's got witch one. I'm however not sure how secure puting our vins on the net is so if you guys have any ideas or if you're willing to simply PM the last digits to me I am willing to try and decode this for us.

Just so you guys know.

say a vin that's JM1NB353810153757

J = Japan
M= Mazda
1= Car
NB = Model (proteges should be BJ unless they have a different one for MP3s)
35= Convertable (22 = sedan)
3= Engine (2.0L should be 7)
8= no meaning
1= year of car (2001, 2=2002 etc)
0= where it was made (0=Hiroshima, 1=Hofu)
and the last 6 digets = car number

So how do you convert the last 6 digits into the production number........if you can? If you can get a list going, it would be good to have it incorporated in the current MP3 production # list.

I'm yet to figure that one out yet because I need a few to see if there is any relations. Like for example, is MP3 #550 say Production number 153757 and #551 number 153758? you know. But to figure that I need some numbers.

I also would like to know if the model number "BJ" a MP3 number or just a GT number. I'll just check a few protege's i see down here. My number is 458367.

Mine is BJ and 464379 = production # 1361

P.S. I PM'd someone to see if their VIN is the same amount off as our productions numbers are, we'll see.

Thats is odd. Unless the Canadian MP3's where in the first 1000 units i would of thought your number would of been lower (44 or something not 46 cause mine is 45). It could also be that they took GT's that where not sold and made them MP3's later.
