Can you crush the stock cat out?

I was wondering if it is possible to crush the stock cat from the downpipe? Im thinking for us who are on a budget and cant afford a DP at the moment what if we just bang out the cat from the stock downpipe?

You will throw a CEL.

It can be done. My old room mate did this on his 2001 Cadillac CTS.

i understand you will throw a CEL but just wondering if it's possible. I think i remember my brother doing it on his 240 but wanted to know if it is possible on the speed 6 downpipe. I may just try this.

i don't see why not. its not like cat technology has changed much over the years..

you could cut it out and weld in a piece of straight pipe, then sell the cat to the junkyard for some buck$. no shop here in IL will do this for you, there is a minimum $20,000 fine if caught.

hhhmmm sounds good, im gonna see if i can go to my buddys shop sometime this week and take off the downpipe and bang out the cat. I'll let you guys know if there's any improvement in performance.
