Can Someone Explain The Concept Of Hid?

I love the light output of my 6000k. The 4300 and 5000k kits will probably produce better results as far as light output but 6000k is a good compromise between "appearance" and performance. I notice dramatically increased performance over my stock halogen bulbs. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the defined line you see when your alignment hasn't been screwed up. I noticed it when I first got the car but I had since messed up my alignment and had to realign them. While I have gotten them pretty close to where they were, they are not perfect. Still, I feel that the performance of my HIDs are superior in every aspect and situation that I have encountered over my halogen bulbs...that includes rain. I have not had the opportunity to use them in snowy conditions but I will most likely drive my '90 Accord beater on those such days anyhow.

I used to get flashed by people when I originally installed my HIDs because I had one aimed too high. Now that I have realigned them, I no longer get flashed and my field of vision is excellent.

The installation is as easy as changing your regular bulbs (which is a PITA)....the only addition is really figuring out how to mount the ballasts. Currently I am unhappy with my mounting positions and will fix that when I install my turbo kit. If you aren't worried too much about underhood appearance, just find a place as far away from the exhaust manifold as possible and as dry as possible. The kit should come with two sided tape but it won't last forever so look at strapping the ballasts down somewhere or screwing them in somewhere. The wiring is really easy because it plugs right into your stock harness. Another cool aspect is that with the ballast, when you flip your high beams on, the low beams stay on for the extra side visibility.

As far as the line you are talking about in the reflector, I believe you could be referring to something you will normally only see through projector beam headlamps. Even the stock reflector type HIDs don't have this line that I think you are referring to. It is just a light blue tint to your light ouput but it is very white on the ground.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Here are some pics. My camera is a 6yr old 4MP camera so the images aren't great and well I'm no photographer either. These pics are not on even ground and not lined up with anything but hey I live in an apartment and this is my handy dandy carport. They kinda give you an idea of color though and the illumination pics are without and with flash.

Thanks a lot for those pics. Those help out. Yeah, the line i'm refering to must come with the projection headlights. I've driven a few Mercedes and noticed that defined line that they give. I can see how there would be a difference with the projection-style headlights. I think the 6000k kit would be best for my needs as well. I'm not trying to be very fancy...just want some better night time vision and a bit of extra flare as well.
On another note, REYNOLDSROBBIE, do you have any more pics of your car? It looks pretty good from that thumbnail but i'd like to see more of a close-up with that blacked-out headlamps and gunmetal wheel combonation. Looks pretty good to me.

ooohhhhwweee! That's pretty. man, I think i love everything about your car. Did you paint the headlight housings yourself? What's the visibility on that 10k kit? Looks pretty bright. Also, what kinda drop do you have? Man, i'm envious...

thanks! Those are actually ebay H4 housings meant for the Mazdaspeed or the ES. I love the light I would never go back to halogen! As for the drop I have it lowered aprox. 2"

I've got stock lights and I have been flashed numerous times by people who think i have my highs on. it's quite amusing.

I know the feeling...

Most of the time I just shake my head because over half of the on coming vehicles have fogs and should know it's illegal to drive with fogs and high beams on at the same time, and in most cars they automatically go out when the high beams go on...and on that note I usually never use the high beams unless I'm in a heavily wooded area...I find the stock bulbs at 4000k tipped right and the fogs are plenty of light for me to drive.

What annoys me the most is that people will flick they're lights indicating they think I have high beam on, but then there's those asshats that put there's on low and don't flick and then when they get about ten feet from me because they think I'm being ignorant they put there's on high and it's like wham...cause by then I've adjusted to they're lights and it's very blinding... I mean Jeezus...

Honestly I think driver's ed should consist of a crash course in mechanics for the basic stuff ie: where your oil goes, where to find your tire size, and as it pertains to this topic beginning able to distinguish high beam from low beam LOL. I think it would make people not be so lacadaisical* behind the wheel.

But on the HID idea, I personally do not like them. My mom has them on her car and I hate that blue tinge glare...but I have driven in a car that has them so looking through they're windshield I find they are much brighter but I really don't like the distinct cut off line it gives...overall I wouldn't spend money on them but to each his own...

Did you ever see my lights when i lived in F-Town (Oromocto) ??

Yes...the first time we met and come to think of it the only time we've met lol...I remember asking you about the blue lights...I have to take back some of my previous statement...I don't hate them on all cars...I really don't like how they look with the smaller circle lights like teg's have..but they aren't too bad on the P5...I stand by everything else I said tho..don't like the cut off line or the blue tinge when cars with them approach but like someone mentioned focus on something else. It's just something I personally wouldn't invest in...I'm not knocking them tho just not my taste is all.

Plus I'm keeping this girl mostly stock including the lights. I don't mind the JDM fogs but for some reason I think this car is beautifully agressive and impressive in it's stock form and there is not a whole lot I want to change. I am going to change the exhaust, put a new header in and an injen cold air intake but that will likely be it as far as under the hood and power wise. Other than that some new wheels, DG Motorsports Lip, possibly a carbon fiber hood with scoop??or without, a new paint job and some better speakers inside..maybe a new shifter knob but I really like the stainless steel/black stock knob...found an interesting link to this site btw while doing a google search for shifter knobs but that's a WHOLE other story(shocked) LOL.
