Can it be true!?

I was at my dealer getting a oil change, and set up an appointment for the usual "rear swaybar/suspension noise". One of the mechanics came out and said that they had gotten a tech bulletin a couple of weeks or so ago with a new bushing part number to hopefully fix it. Their computer was down (almost 5:00) but they will call me with the new part to set up an appointment. I'll try to get the part number for everyone! Hopefully its really true!

I know that I did get my bushings replaced with larger ones...and the sound went away...but it seems almost like in the last few days it's coming back...but I'll listen more carefully...could just be the bass on my music. :D

Hey all... I'm somewhat new here... been browsing the site for tips, help, tech info and misc. stuff about my baby :D .... but i haven't registered and posted untill now... anyway, the reason I'm posting is because this is just nutty how everyone is having the same probs as me w/ the tranny & suspension....

maybe 2 mo after i got the car, it started grinding into third gear (1st vrrrm, 2nd vrrm, 3rd crunch! vrrm) the majority of the time that i was shifting into it... anyway.. i took it down to dealer (Alhambra Mazda, Alhambra CA... however i bout it at Romero Mazda, Ontario because Alhambra wanted to overcharge me) and the dealer told me that they would have to pull it apart and look at it, and there was no guarantee that it would be covered under warranty. So first off, im (without being vulgar) EXTREMELY UPSET to put it lightly.. "You mean to tell me i just bought a brand new car and paid for the extra warranty, AND paid cash for everything, and your P.O.S. transmission starts breaking down.. but I have to pay for it?"... needless to say.. this was bad enough.. then they tell me that it is also going to take them a week just to tear it down and look at it. So I tell them that I'll come back when I have a week that i dont have to go to work, or school, or to the store, or anywhere else for that matter since they can't give a 19 yr old a rental car (that is a whoooooolllleeee different story that i have a problem with). So anyway, about two weeks later, im driving down the street and i come to a stop light... Green.... 1st, vrrrrmmm, 2nd vrrrmmm, 3rd CRUNCH!!!GRIND!CRUNCH!!!... hmm.. WTF WAS THAT?!?!?!!? "MY CAR!, MY BABY!!! AHHHHH" i stop and hold down the clutch try to come out of third gear.. nope.. not gonna happen... try again.. still nope.. not gonna happen... i finally get it out of third and put it in 4th "position" but its still in third "gear" if you understand what im saying.. so i put it in 1st, 2nd... R... the whole time its still actually in third gear... (i know because if i rev waaayyy up to about redline and sllllloooowwwlllyyyy let the clutch out it will kind of SLOWLY move forward (even in R) and if i release the clutch, it stalls.. finally someone stops (didnt really have a choice i was blocking a 1-way street ) and he helped me push it while i held in the clutch (it wouldnt move because remember it was in gear)

so after this unfortunate incident, i HAVE to leave it there for like 2 weeks, and after fighting w/ the damn service mngr. at Alhambra Mazda, they finally fix it... but not before they charge me for a new clutch... even though the reason the old one was burnt out was because i was trying to rev to get the car to move (even a little) so i could get it to the side of the road... but they didnt care (and frankly i didnt mind TOO much about the clutch.. because they aren't covered under warranty anyway) after the two weeks i go pick up the car.... pull out of the driveway and guess what boys and girls.... thats right! 1st vrrrm, 2nd vrrm, 3rd crunch! vrrm AHHHHHH!!!!! those F**king bastards!!!!! still grinding even w/ the new part!@!!!@#!@#!$! i was sooooo pissed i didnt even go back to them... oh yah.. and there was a weird kinda scraping/clicking noise coming from tranny after a week of getting it back... so i took it out to ontario... the Romero Motors guys were awesome.. they did everything they could and told me that they put whatever they can under warranty out there... so he checks the car out, and guess what ALHAMBRA MAZDA DIDNT PUT EVERYTHING BACK RIGHT AND ALLLLLL MY TRANNY FLUID LEAKED OUT!..... so i was driving for like a week or two w/ no tranny fluid!!! and Romero Motors cant touch the car because Alhambra is the one that botched the job...

also... about a month after i noticed the tranny prob... i noticed a pretty loud squeaking coming from the rear.... and now i see that a few others are having the same problem (this isn't as big a deal to me since i was planning on full suspension upgrades eventually)

Anyway... im writing a letter to Sacramento (I suggest you do the same) complaing about the company, the dealership, the poor service, the defective parts, and demanding that they issue a recall... they may not listen, but if they don't... its seriously lawsuit time... I CAN'T BELIEVE MAZDA TREATS THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS!!! I should've just bought a used 94 integ GSR.... could've saved alot of money considering i walked in and payed cash for the MP3...

Mazda may have a good concept of what younger, import tuning car buyers want, and may be becoming more popular in the import world, but they can't seem to make a car that is stylish, performs, and doesnt BREAK!... or take care of a customers concerns....

anyway... thanks for letting me vent... even though this post is so long i doubt anyone will read it (i wouldnt :) )

so whats the deal with this tranny problem? Do regular proteges have it? what about P5s? Im buying a MAZDASPEED.....you think I will have the same problem? MAZDASPEED uses the same tranny as the regular protege as far as I know, which I assume is the same as the P5 uses.....so if all these trannys (P5, MP3, MAZDASPEED, Protege) are having what sounds like a catastrophic problem, I cant imagine mazda not recalling them if everyone raised a fuss. If some P5 owners have this problem and some protege owners then it would stand to reason ALL of them would want to write and demand a recall for fear of it happening to them too.....

guess what

same EXACT thing happen to me. in 3rd gear too. i ogt it fixed, they claimed it was a broken fork and blamed it on me. yea nice bs.but now the crunch noise is back and i want a new god damn tranny

ive had my scychros replaced twice for 2nd gear to 3rd grinding and its been good for a few months and now its grinding again.

I've grinded from 1st into 2nd probably 3 times in the past year. Each time was my fault (wasn't thinking and let the clutch up a bit early). Otherwise, I've been very satisfied with my tranny. I believe the Sedan, P5, MP3 and Mazdaspeed all use/will use the same tranny. I worry about the Mazdaspeed owners getting accused of driving it too hard. That turbo will just provoke dealers into saying such :bs: ... I think there is something fishy going on though, and Mazda is starting to lose my respect.

On a side note, I've had nothing but great service for my MP3. My dealer is Don Miller in Madison, WI. When I have problems, I get a rental, no questions asked. So far so good!

the dealership told me i pushed it too hard... and that it was the syncro.... then they replaced it and said it was actually the fork... so they replaced it... they also tried to charge me for labor.. HA! its not even legal to charge for labor when parts are under warranty!! anyway... since they wouldnt fix the grinding gear... it turned into a broken gear... they fixed it... and when i drove it off the lot... 1st, 2nd, 3rd crunch... so was so pissed i didnt even take it back because i probably would have hurt someone real bad... =) but to answer a couple of your questions... as far as i know.. the mp3 doesnt use the same tranny as the regular protege.... for a while i thought it did.. but then i read somewhere (on this board i think) that it is a diff tranny... now as for being the same as the p5 and mazdaspeed.... im not sure... but you should ask the dealer before you buy it if the tranny is the same... (not that they will know.... for some reason, mazda doesnt employ the most intelligent of folks)
