Can I use SD Card from Mazda3 GT in Mazda CX-5 GT?

We have both new Mazda3 and CX-5 Grand Touring Models. The Mazda3 has an SD Card for it's navigation, and the CX-5 has the option for the natigation, but it's like $500 for a tiny, delicate SD Card.

Does anyone know if I can just copy or swap the SD card and maps between vehicles depending on which one we road trip with?

The 500 (or 450 if you buy online and installl yourself) is for the nav unit that holds the card and interfaces to the display, antenna, and car. I think the map may be on the card...

No, unfortunately. The CX5 is a 'Tomtom' map (though they of course are supplied with it) and the Mazda 3 isn't. Also, the software interpreting the maps is different.

My daughter has a 2012 M3 I GT and I believe it has a TomTom unit but it has a compact screen and you control it with buttons on the steering wheel. The SD card might be the same and it might not...

I have a 3 with sd card - but not a Tomtom system - and a CX 5, and they are incompatible in my case. If your daughter's nav is Tomtom I would still doubt whether you can copy or swap.

Is your 3 a 2012? Skyactiv?

No it's an mps (2009). The thing is that Tomtom are very careful that maps are difficult to copy and use on the same systems so I would have thought (but could be wrong) that it is unlikely it would work with a different system. The CX5's system/unit is the NB1

Darn. I will have to check with the dealer about adding nav to the cx5 then. I didn't realize that the expensive unit i see online is the full stereo. The dealer gives fantastic prices on accessories, better than online prices, so maybe the maps themselves are only one hundred or two hundred.

The `12 Skyactiv cars use the previous generation navigation, and is not based on the Tom Tom system found in the CX-5.

After using the CX-5 nav on several trips, the 3i nav is downright horrid. :(
