Cams: fact? or fiction?

On alot of sites I have seen intake and exhaust cams (FS-ZE intake, Mazdaspeed exhaust, I believe). and each claims a 10-12 horsepower gain...Am I to believe that changing out the 2 cams will give me 20-24 horsepower? Sounds kinda' like wishful thinking, to me, or else I'd see the cams listed in everyone's .sig.

So, what's the beef? Buncha' bullsh!t? Or are they for real?

its BS...you MIGHT get the 10-12 with both cams.

That's what I figured. SR Motorsports claims 10hp from Mazdaspeed exhaust, 12hp from Mazdaspeed intake.
But, to be fair, they are not the only ones!

Heh - I wish you'd post pics of that Greddy EVO when ya install it. And if you can swing a video with sound, that'd be even MORE appreciated! ;)

I wish that someone had a dyno sheet on them. (bang)

Someone does have a dyno sheet on them. Over on the other board Edwin dyno'd his car with the cams, IM, and intake.

carefull with what sr motorsport says...mazdaspeed intake cam??? i emailed them quite some time ago (about 1 year) and asked them where are they getting the mazdaspeed intake cam (advertised on their website like it is now)...anyway, 1 day later the website changed to jdm intake cam and naturally i heard nothing back...but i noticed recently they changed it back...

anyway, mazdaspeed intake cam? no such thing, mazdaspeed only makes a exhaust cam

if you're serious at getting power out of the cams, please oh please dont just get the jdm intake and mazdaspeed exhaust cams...go grind your own...the mazdaspeed and jdm cams are extremely mild in the world of performance cams...and i cant stress extremely mild enough

i cant remember the specs of the jdm intake and mazdaspeed exhaust, but these are the specs i'm getting my blanks put to :

both intake and exhaust : 266deg advertised, 222deg @ 0.050", 0.355" lift

now at those specs you start to talk serious power increases

Unless your planning on going FI, the the FS-ZE, and Mazdaspeed cams are about as aggressive as you'll want to go. :D

hey

yeah i do plan on going FI in a few years, maybe sooner, but even so, the mazdaspeed cams are bloody mild in the world of cams. check out the websites of webcams etc and you'll see just how small they really are.

i think the problem is a few people buy the mazdaspeed cams thinking mazdaspeed must be good, but you have to also remember that they are the only aftermarket cam on the market at the moment (that i know about anyway) so you dont really have much choice.
