Camber Kit??

~Background-I was going about 70mph on a curvy road, a p.o.s. multi-color(gotta love primer) honda civic cuts my off, i sacrifice my car into the curb to miss the guy, and left a nice chunk out of my stock rims on the curb.

~Problem-My car drifts hard right. I long ago replaced the bent rim, replaced the warped rotor, replaced the strut and got it aligned a million times. The most recent trip to the alignment rack, the guy finally told me that they cant adjust the camber.

~Question- What can I do to fix this? Camber kit? Mazda told me to go to a bodyshop....maybe? HELP!

the eibach pro kit. it will be sitting on bags before the end of winter though

A GOOD alignment shop should be able to adjust your cable with the use of a dremel like tool.
You just need to find a "performance" oriented shop in the area and tell them what happened.
Your strut mounts have holes in them that are set up for a factory alignment. You've bent something and now the factory holes aren't good enough. They will enlarge these holes to reposition everything.

shop will definitely cost more than the Eibach kit. it's available from Tire Rack for $24 for the 2 bolts, one each side, plus shipping. Supposed to offer +/- 1 degree of camber. I just received the ones I've ordered but haven't installed them yet. It looks really simple (smaller diamter bolt than stock with a cam to offset the strut position from the mounting hole) but I may have to play with them a bit to understand how to adjust them.

ok, I'll let you know when I do the install. Since I don't need the camber for the street, I might not install them until I get my car to the track on Nov 12-13 for a drivers school & time trial. If you can wait until then, great.

If you can't wait, I could try to put them in before, just let me know. It might be good for me to get that job done before I leave for the track anyway. I have lots more tools at home. :)

Eibach Camber Bolts

zoomzoom2,

it took me awhile but I finally put the camber bolts in yesterday.
I measures the camber before and after install (setting bolts at maximum negative camber) and here's what I got:

camber before install - stock (L/R): -1 1/8 deg / - 1 3/8 deg

camber after install (L/R): -2 3/4 deg / - 2 5/8 deg

net change from camber bolts (L/R): -1 5/8 deg / -1 1/4 deg

The install was fairly easy. Just remove the higher of the two strut mounting bolts (just behind the wheel) and replace with the Eibach bolt. 1 bolt per side. Rotate bolt to get up to approximately +/- 1 degree of camber change.

I'd add this to my list of best $30 mods:
1. kartboy shift bushing
2. speedbleeders
3. Eibach camber bolts

I got mine from The Tire Rack. Good luck

i'm not familiar with the Tein damper but if it mounts to the upright with the same two bolts as the stock front struts, then it should work.

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO USE A CAMBER KIT?

Hey I wasn't sure if a camber kit is needed when putting Eibach Pro Kits on the MP5 along with KYB shocks / struts. Does anyone know if it's really needed? Also does the MP5 have SHOCKS or STRUTS?

we have struts. camber bolts should not be needed, but that will depend on how much negative camber you had before the drop, how much you get from the drop and how much you are willing to live with. I think most guys are happy with the slightly increased negative camber they get from lowering springs.

negative camber in small doses is not bad, maybe 1 - 2 degrees but you will wear out the inside of your tires slightly more quickly and wet braking could be slightly reduced. on the plus side, cornering should be slightly increased. These changes are all very slight so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

you should try the drop and then get an alignment and see if it's within spec or close. then decide if you need the camber bolts to add positive camber back to get into spec.

good luck.
