Calling Home Link Mirror Owners

I need confirmation from a home link mirror owner on an issue I'm currently struggling to work through with my local dealer.

For details on the issue you can check this thread:http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123723402

Basically I need to know if your home link mirror leaves the LCD and LED displays on when your key is not in the ignition. I suspect the mirror should be completely dark when the car is not on. It shouldn't look like (what I think) is this botched installation job:

I have a dealer installed Homelink mirror.
The mirror should definitely shut off when you turn off the ignition.
I have my Escort 8500 x50 radar detector power routed from the mirror through an invisicord. It definitely shuts off when I turn the key off.
Your dealer has taken a shortcut and hooked the mirror power to the overhead light source rather than running the wires down the A-pillar to a switched source as the directions indicate.
Sounds like you have found the source of your power drain problem.
G/l convincing them. Have them compare your setup to a new car on the lot.

i have the homelink and mine turns completely off when the car is off and the key is out. so that might be your issue, did YOU put in the mirror or did it come installed? if they did it they would need to fix that for you man

Looks like it's wired into a constant hot 'stead of a switched hot. (Duh) For a guess, I'd say it's wired into the courtesy lights.

It needs to be wired into both constant on and switched hot. Does the homlink work with the car off? It is supposed to. It is possible they just switched the two power wires.

you tapped the wrong wire... mine definitely is on an IGNITION source. This is the way to ensure it will be on and off with that circuit.

I didnt tap any wires. I purchased the mirror along with installation when I took delivery of the car. The dealer caused all these problems.

^ Right answer.

Actually, you should check to see if the Homelink works with the key out. If not, then the installer has the switched power and constant power leads switched. If it does work with the key out, then the installer used the same hot lead for both. Either way, take it back and make sure they fix it on their dime.

The homelink mirror has a 3 wire harness
Battery, 12v switched, and ground.

The homelink buttons should work if the ignition is on or off.
Autodim and compass only work when the key is on.

If your autodim/compass is on when the car is off, and the homelink buttons don't work - then the tech simply swapped the wires. If both are on when the car is off, then yea shortcuts were taken. go make them fix it. And this time, use an add-a-circuit and go into the fuse box instead of splitting the factory wires!

If the dealer didn't read the additional white pages concerning the install they installed it wrong and tried to make it work. The same thing happened to both my dad and myself. They attached to a wire that the next page said "
don't attach to wire xxx use wire xxx instead" but they were to dumb to look, even after told of the problem.
