Calipers

Hey everyone.
I was considering painting my calipers of my Red Protege5 red. Does anyone here have any tips for me before I do this? Where is the best place to get paint/cleaning supplies?

Anodized Red, Gloss black, or Silver either of these colors will look sick.

Whats the difference between annodized red and regular red?

The difference between anodized red and regular red is that anodized red has metal flakes in it to coat a surface electrolytically with a protective or decorative oxide. Basically it's a "metallic red" instead of a glossy red or flat red.

here is a pic of Anodized red-

Sweet. I think I'll just go with the regular G2 red because I think the annodized red would be too complicated for me to pull off.

BlueWolf - The G2 paint is self-smoothing although you can help it by doing several thin coats. I did mine four times and feel my coats were too thick -- although they still look great!

Anodized is just what it's supposed to look like. It doesn't actually anodize the caliper. It does look good though. While you're painting the caliper you could also take the rotors off and paint them (just the edges and the hub part) so that they won't rust. It also brings out the caliper color better.

I used a High Heat Silver, A foam brush and a bunch of Q-Tips for the details. I feel it came out pretty good... subtle and clean looking. The paint smoothed itself out with no problem and left no brush marks.

here is how silver look like.

ok so when you guys were painting them did you turn the steering wheel towards the direction of the caliper you're painting? i think i'd be a little bit easier but the steering wheel locks and if i do the other side ill have to start the car on the jacks..dangerous?

they look awesome by the way

I just jacked it up, took the wheel off, and had at it. It really doesn't take that long. It took me probaly 1-2 hours for all four. If you get the high heat spray paint, I would suggest spraying into a glass jar or something and painting out of that. You won't have to mask or worry about overspray, and you can get more detailed with a small brush, Q-Tips, etc...

I did it mostly to get rid of that rust-like staining that started happening the moment I brought the car home. I got some 400 grit sand paper and sanded the outside of the disk, the center of the disk (don't sand the rotor surface where the brakes make contact), and as much of the caliper that I could reach. then cleaned everything off and painted. The end result looks a lot cleaner and in a nice subtle mod. I didn't want my factory brakes to stand out, so I chose silver, since both my car and wheels are silver. I doubt anybody except thost that I have told would even notice they were painted. However before they were painted, everybody noticed the rust.
