This has been argued over and over, and before I buy one or the other I just wanted to get a poll of everyones opinion.

lol...its just that I have read every forum thread on intakes and they always break out into what seams to be 50/50 arguments, so I just wanted to start a poll to find the real numbers to help me in my decision making. Thnx everyone!

SRI for upgraded intercooler (if you plan on doing it) / racing

CAI for daily driving

At least that's what I've gotten from all these threads. Also it's a matter of personal preference.

I still challenge anyone to find a scientific study performed by an outside, unbiased entity that puts a stock car on a dyno, takes a reading, adds a SRI, takes a reading, adds a CAI, takes a reading. And published the results.

All CAI and SRI "data" I have seen was performed by whatever company owned that particular SRI or CAI and I find that data, "suspect".

Guys this is easy. The CAI is the best way to go. I have talked to several engineers where I work. Cold air is the best because the air charge starts out at a lower temp. Say you have an air charge of 70 degrees with the CAI. Then it hits the turbo and heats up to 100 degrees. 30 degree diff. Now you have a SR that gets you a 90 degree charge and the turbo heats it up that 30 dergrees. Now you have a 120 degree air charge going into the IC. The CAI has to be better cause even with the turbo heating up the air you are still starting out at a lower temp and you will end up with a lower temp, lower is always better.

:dunno: what kind of temp diference do you think there is from a CAI and a SRI? Do you have data to back that up?

An engineer can heve a great theory but I come from a scientific family, I believe data.

data smada,
All I'm saying is the air charge STARTS lower then goes through the process which heats it up to X. With the SR it starts higher and goes through the system at a higher temp. It doesn't matter what the exact temp is, it matters what it starts at and what it goes to.

As has been mentioned before, you won't notice much, if any difference between the two. Peak hp gain is going to be around 3-4whp regardless. Both will improve throttle response. On really hot days you "might" notice a small difference due to heat soak with the SRI, but either way you are better off than stock. Of course, with the CAI only costing $60 off of ebay, why not spend the extra $20-$30 and get it...

One thing i read about a CRX, a guy used a short ram and then a cold air. The temps were about 8 degrees difference when hitting the throttle body.

yup agree with that one. i dont care what ANYBODY "tells" about there expereince. put a stock car on a dyno, put the cai on get back on dyno, put sri on get back on dyno. Until the NOBODY will know which one is better.

img going to try something with my injen when i get to the dyno, i have stock dynos, then ill dyno with the injen, and then do the sri mod that people are doing to the injen and see which one is better. until then word of mouth is exactly what it is "word of mouth" and not PROOF.
