CAI uninstall

So, I just got my MS3 back with my CAI uninstalled and the stock intake reinstalled. It sounds so much more "natural" and I couldn't be happier. After driving my car around, I really do appreciate the car sounds "as is", and that "fun factor" is back again.

Well, everyone here knows that with added performance you get added sounds, expecially with a CAI or exhaust mods. Ever feel like some research would have prevented this?

Eh, to each their own, you won't need asbestos suits for my feelings; I love the sound! I love you don't, and that you don't mind that I do, so long as you keep your loves and I keep mine. ;)

I installed my MS CAI about a month ago. I must say I was a little disappointed with some of the sound. It sounds amazing when under full acceleration, and I absolutely love hearing the BOV. However, under lighter acceleration (especially on the highway) it sounds too "airy" like a whiffle ball sound. I would like more deep tones and less light air sounds.

I've also noticed more turbo lag with the CAI, perhaps this is because I'm now more intuned with the turbo since I can notice it more so now.

All in all I think both stock and CAI have their advantages. I like how when stock it just felt like a really powerful engine. Now if feels like an engine with a powerful turbo. Overall I'm happier with the CAI, especially cause I can feel a bit more power.

My 2 cents... I don't blame you for liking stock, its got its own nice feel to it.

Turbo lag...wtf... First of all this car has no trubo lag. And second, its unbelievable that you people buy a product and don't even do any research or ask any questions. Ignorance is bliss...

zero turbo lag, depends on which gear ur in and what rpms.... with cai you get less "turbo lag" because u get more air, thats y u can hear the turbo suck in air.

zero turbo lag... WTF..... how about any gear below 3 grand you wait and wait then it hits you like a wrecking ball once you finaly get over 3 grand. congrats on the unistall to each there own. i admit it makes it a little more sleeper esh. but i love the fatter torque curve with the CAI especialy after 5.5 to 6.0 grand.

Wait a tic.

Take a look at the stock airbox.

Now look at a CAI.

At what point did you think "hmmm, I bet they sound the same?"

And you want annoying? Cold air on a BMW. Anything less than WOT, it just kinda whistles a bit. No matter where you are in the rev range.

Maybe he just tried it to see if he liked it? There's nothing in the MS3's rule book about having a CAI. He likes it better without.

Yes there is. Page four. Its true.

If he don't want the CAI, works for me, to each and all. Just saying that he shouldn't have been surprised that it was louder...Mazda should offer a program to test drive their parts for a small security payment, LOL!

The car was loud to begin with, so the added level of spooling noises never bothered me. Funny how I got accustomed to the noise this car makes. Mazda gave me a Cobalt yet again as the loaner, and when the service attendant brought my MS3 out for me to pick up, I was like, "woah~ my car is loud!" It made the crappy Cobalt feel like a Lexus (noise-wise). lol~!

Just for the record, I DID do research prior to purchasing the CAI. This forum, along with testimony from the service department at Tustin Mazda, were the primary resources I used to make that decision. I also checked out video footage on Youtube. Given the limited availability of the MS3, let alone one with a CAI installed, I didn't have the opportunity to drive or listen to a CAI installed MS3 in person. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this forum who doesn't start drooling when they hear a modded MS3 accelerating with a CAI installed. Yes, I liked the extra power, but I'm here as a RESOURCE for others who may feel the same way I do and are thinking of doing what I did. For crying out loud, spare me the insults and sarcasm for expressing my opinion at a place where I thought it would be appreciated.
