Bypass Valves/Blowoff Valves and Shims...

Ok soooo how does one figure out if you need to add shims to your Bypass/BOV setup.. what should one look for in this situation. I have an 08
MS3 and had* the TurboXS bypass valve on that is supposed to be a direct replacement. They (TurboXS) shipped it with 3 shims in a bag but I wasnt even sure what they were for... Now I know they add tension to the internal spring on a Bypass/BOV. Well before I figured this out, my Bypass Valve Failed on me and the Valve was locked into the Open (venting) position so I couldn't build any boost. So anyhow I sent it back and will be getting it replaced, now I dont know if I should add a shim or 2 or something if that was my initial problem in causing the failure.. I dont know you tell me...

You've got to apply some lube to the outside of the cylinder so it can move freely up & down ... you're new one will stick again likely if u don't do that.

As for shims my TurboXS BPV has 6 washers in but it's likely the weaker 80mm spring as I understand they've started including different springs.

no springs in the kit, just the washers, some zip ties, a piece of tube for the nipple, a metal coupler for that tube and some washers, thats it. No instructions telling you to lube the cylinder or anything.. sooo what lube do you reccomend using on the cylinder? and you mean cylinder not the vavle correct..?

well the tech at turboXS said to use all the washers and no lube.. so I guess when I get my new one Ill give it a shot....(dunno)

I dont have any springs that are additional to the kit. It just has washers that you add to raise the spring tension.

IIRC I used a bit of marine grease and just wiped it on the outside of the cylinder but a shot of silcone spray around it may help too. Whatever you use, after a few days spin the top off and see if you can still move the cylinder up & down easily with your hand.
