HISTORY:

I used to own a 1971 Corolla Sedan (KE20). Loved that car, originally had a 1.2 liter engine, then converted to a 1.6 DOHC 2TG engine. I had a blast with that car, but it was a bit rusted, and I had too many problems with the 2TG. Also, my wife wouldnt let me take it to our house until I finished the work on our home. So, its been sitting at my parents house for years, until my brother-in-law wanted it. So off it went up north to Sacramento where hes eventually going to work on it (Hes a Mustang owner, and wants to put a V6 in the Corolla eventually.)

Fast forward to this year...While we were visiting the in-laws in Northern Cali, My brother-in-laws neighbor gave him another old Corolla (he couldn't get it to run)Which eventually landed in my hands here in Southern California! (I dont know how my wife said yes?)

SO, heres my latest project:

1979 TE51 Toyota Corolla liftback. 1.6 OHV 2T-C

My wife allowed me to keep it on one condition. DONT SPEND A LOT OF MONEY. Which is fine by meI already have lots of extra parts.

So it will be a BUDGET buildMeaning, Im open to any donation of parts.

Here is the before picture:

What I’ve done to it:

15X6 SSR Superfins w/195/50/R15 Triangle Tires (Old set I’ve had for years, I need to find the center caps, tires were $130 new!)
3” rear lowering blocks & cut springs up front (I have some coilovers I plan to install (if I find them in the garage)
AE86 Tokico front struts & KYB rear shocks (used)
Weber 32/36 DGV carb (was on the 1.2L engine)
Pacesetter Headers (had these for years)
1996 MR2 Seats (1/2 price sale from the junkyard)
1982 Honda Prelude electric fuel pump (dad gave to me)
Tune up (plugs/wires/cap/rotor/oil change)

Total $ spent $375
Oh and the best part! AC works great!

Junkyard is having another 1/2 price sale this weekend :)

What can I say, I love my wife. And fixing up a house right now is expensive! (crazy) That's where most of our money goes to.

found my center caps! Will get better pictures up soon.

Car looks great and must be a fun project. Sadly a lot of people confuse whipped with compromise.

the pic with the 71 corrolla brings back a lot of memories. my friend had one exactly like yours. his had a 1.6 dohc, it had dual 2 bbl carbs w/ velocity stacks sticking out of his hood, header, cams, holley fuel pump, gearing w/ posi, autometer gauges the usual wheels and tires. he said the carbs were mostly for show cause ran way faster with the side draft he also had. back then fast corrollas was everywhere. don't know why toyota let honda take over... anyways good luck with the project.

That's the 2TG engine you're talking about. Yeah, there's a lot of the those old corollas in Hawaii...Check this thread out: http://www.toyota3tc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=58
