Brushed or aluminum

i have polished even though i have many brushed aluminum parts (knob and pedals) and i am happy with my choice.

polished looks a bit classier during the day and doesnt diffuse as much light at night.

In that picture at night -
Does the polished tend to glow in a ring around the gauges like the brushed does? To me it seems like the polished is barely noticeable at night whereas the brushed really gives a cool effect at night.

I like the look of the polished in the daytime but the look of the brushed at night. Were those night pictures accurate, or is it just hard to take pictures at night?

i chose polished, really happy with it, because the light from the tach reflects sparkling in the the rings at night.

My brushed do not glow whatsoever...could I possibly have a guage light out? My '03.5 just seemed to be alot brighter than my '02.

I bought the polished set, and they look incredible ... well worth the money. It's a personal choice (polished, brushed), but they both look great to me.

i have a brushed set on my p5,
i gotta ask, how come mine looks nothing like as bright as it does on the pic above?
at night my brushed set looks about the brightness of the polished set.

Same here...I've asked this several times and nobody ever responds. Maybe you and I have dud guage lights.

Still, the rings look awesome during the day, so I'm not complaining...just curious.

My guess is that the picture of the gauges is a bit inaccurate - obviously taken with two cameras? The exposure time here really matters, my guess is that the brushed pic has a longer exposure. When i took a pic of my gauges at night, I had to do a ten second exposure (or something like that). So It probably doesn't reflect either one very well at night. We should probably go by the fact that everyone here loves them at nightr. I think I will go polished because it'll give a more aftermarket look to my car's gauges rather than a stock look. Well, the real reason I guess is the fact that I like shiny things.

To install these gauges, I follow the http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48154
instructions right? I've never unscrewed anything in my car before and those steps look hard. Haha. His gauge cluster is also already removed from the car. Is is possible to replace the gauge faces without removing the whole thing? How hard is it for somebody with zero car modding experience to do?

you dont need to dissasemble the cluster, just take off the plastic guard.

its really easy, took me 20 minutes with no instructions the first time. i can do it now in less than 10.

about the pictures: i took the picture of the polished set, with a standard point and shoot 2.1 mp camera using my hands to steady it. there was no exposure adjustement other than the auto exposure, which was pretty short, but it gave a pretty accurate example of the guages in real life. i would say whoever took the brushed had a longer exposure time.

hey did you join moccforums.com ? its a forum for us local cali folks.

yes its really easy to install, i've never done anything to my car before but i managed to install them too very quickly. if you give a shout on the local forum i'm sure someone could help you out with installing them.
you need to remove the whole thing to put the rings in.
i'm not sure how to replace the gauge faces though.

alan we gotta compare our gauges at night. i'm assuming that the 02.5 has brighter gauge lights than the 02.

You'll get a CD with the gauge rings, which explains exactly how to install them.

It's really easy to install the rings, just watch out if you have alarm, you will have to get underneath the dash to unplug and then unwind the wire to the LED. Took me 25 min including undoing the alarm LED.

Hi friction, my 03 guage is dim too. I took the condoms off the 4 backlights when i had the cluster out, and the light becomes orange (which I don't mind), but worse of all, the light off the needle base is too yellow and it throws off the whole scheme... still looking for solution.

That's why I bought the 3 LED light set and point them to the guauges.
That's a cheap and lazy solution for me.
