Breathable seat fabric repair

I love the breathable fabric on my MS3 GT. It's soft, comfortable, and I don't get sweaty like a full leather seat.

I am concerned about its durability though. It looks like it would snag or rip easily. Can anyone comment on how it holds up over time and how resilient it is? I don't even want to think about having to repair the seat if it got torn.

Probably should revise this -- how do you repair damage to that breathable fabric? Bought a pair of jeans that stupidly had rivets right on the butt, and they were sharp rivets that damaged that fabric.

I've gotta call the company tomorrow and try to make them pay...totally ridiculous that a pair of jeans would do that. They also ruined a kitchen chair of mine (expensive chair). If they don't pay up, I'm taking it to small claims court.

What's the cost to get the seat bottom re-covered? The dealer probably sells the "covers", but they're probably several hundred dollars plus labor.

Actually did some searching and found that the seat cover (bottom portion) runs a little under $300 plus a few hours of labor to install it.

The CS rep for the company said she is going to speak with her supervisor to see how this must proceed. I'd prefer they don't force me to take it to court, but I will if I have to.

Made me absolutely sick when I saw what had happened...barely had the car for a week. It was truly a stupid f*cking design on their part...who even looks at jeans for things like that?

How easy is it to put the replacement covers on? What sort of clips/attachment pieces do they use?

Thats sucks. Pics of seat? Pics of jeans?

I don't think you can completely blame the jeans company, unless these are ultra small rivets which one would have no reasonable suspicion for being sharp and causing damage.

Rivets are always rounded off, and I have never ever seen them placed on the seat of the pants...where you put all your weight. The rivets were clearly defective.

I'll post a photo tomorrow when I can get a good one in the sunlight.

i have been considering buying some cheapo seat covers for reasons just like this. it always seems that when you are least expecting something like this to happen it does. that sucks dude!

Saw the damage on the kitchen chair first, then looked at all my jeans and put two and two together.

Dam, I would be pissed. That is a bad design for jeans, but i'll be surprised if the company gives you any kind of refund. I'm curious what happens, let us know.

I think I have the exact same problem as you. Started out when I noticed my kitchens chairs getting all scratched to hell then realized it was these damn rivets holding the back pockets together. Are yours DKNY jeans as well? I guess this is what I get when I let a chick pick out my clothes lol. Damn designer crap.

Express "Denim Factory". All their ******* jeans have rivets on the back pockets now...not very smart.

I'm calling back on Monday to find out what's up.

I think i'm going to try and take a file to mine see if I can flatten them out. Was looking to just pull them out but they go all the way through dammit.

I have not yet noticed this in my MS3 but with my GTI I noticed that over time, a certain portion of my bottom-part of my seat would wear. I found the cause to be the velcro on some of my short pants back pocket.

With my MS3 I have already begun to be more careful. I dont sit with my wallet in my pocket and never with velcro; and now apparently pants without rivets.

Although, I only have about 7600 miles on my car and I have a noticeable "wave" where I sit. Is that something I should even take to the dealer? Its kinda like taking something that rattles in the car to the dealer, when you can cover it up by turning up the radio why worry about it?

Anyways though, sorry about the seat. It always sucks when you unintentionally do bad s***.

A file will make it worse. Try some very fine sandpaper/emery cloth, like 2000 grit. You may be able to round things off.

The "mesh" fabric on the seats sucks. I have a inch long tear in my drivers seat also. I don't wear sharp jeans, I carry a front pocket wallet, I keep nothing in my back pockets. Mazda changed the mesh to a suede looking fabric in the 2008.5 models and that tells me they had a known problem. I'm going to push, and push hard to get all my seats replaced.

Unless Mazda want's me camped in front of the local dealership with a "Mazda Warrenty Sucks" sign then I'm going to get new seats AND a free clear bra kit to protect the substandard quality paint.
