Brake Grinding? Braking, clutch down, changing gears/neutral, and vibration in brake

I haven't really found anything on this very specific, but very obvious, issue I've noticed in my 2011 Mazda2 Touring MT (~56K). I first noticed it a while ago, predominantly when coasting downhill, foot on the brake and clutch and I hit a bump. At that exact moment, it almost feels like the brake cuts out and I get this grinding or vibration feeling in the break pedal. It feels like metal rubbing on metal. For the longest time, I thought that maybe it was just the traction control? But even that doesnt feel right. And then for the first time yesterday it happened when I was parallel parking... pulled up alongside the car in front of me, clutch, brake, and right before I shifted into reverse, that gut-wrenching grinding feeling in my brake pedal.

It's definitely the TCS. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's one of the quirkier systems on the car. You're spot on with the TCS kicking in when you hit a bump in neutral with pressure on the brake pedal, but I've also experienced the TCS kicking in during simple things like parallel parking. I've got a 2011 Sport MT with 50+K. It's not reproducible, so I've never taken it in to get looked at.

ABS can also cause pedal vibration. Driving over rough surfaces while braking can frequently trigger the ABS. It can actually be quite dangerous since stopping distance is suddenly extended dramatically when there is no real hazard. Another reason I loved my non-abs equipped NB and FC's.

Sounds like like ABS, I have it go off constantly on the track late braking. It does feel weird if you are not used to it.

What I've noticed about the ABS in our cars is that, while it does seem to be a bit more aggressive in when it decides to kick in, it doesn't seem as intrusive as it does on other cars. I don't notice the ABS in my 2 nearly as much as in my 3...it isn't as loud and the brake pedal doesn't vibrate as much.
