How necessary are these? I am planning on installing some Mazda 6 front brakes tomorrow, but I just realized that I have an incomplete set of anti-rattle clips. I have heard some people say that you can go without them. Any thoughts?

Well, they keep the pads tight within the caliper. So the piston keeps the pad from going all over the place, but the pad's end pieces that go in the caliper grooves can shimmy, I guess on a lateral motion.

They don't really matter unless you start getting a rattle over bumps.

Why don't you have the clips. Typically when you buy new pads, they come with the clips.

Yeah I'm not sure why my pads didn't come with them. I have Hawk HPS pads, and I don't remember if the last sets I bought came with them. I seem to recall that I had to reuse my original ones. Unfortunately I got these Mazda6 calipers used so there is only an incomplete set of clips to reuse. I guess I'll make a trip to Autozone and if they don't have any I'll just say screw it. If they end up rattling though, I can always install them after the fact I suppose.
