BOV - VTA vs Recirculate

Hi all,

I bought a Speed6 GT in Aug of 2006 and have really enjoyed this car. I now have 18k miles without issue and have started looking at a few mods; CAI, BOV, TP and a rear engine mount.

I'm leaning towards the CP-E HKS sequential BOV kit at the moment, but had some questions that I can't seem to find a straight answer to. What are the advantages or disadvantages between VTA and Recirc? I would think recirc would be preferable because it's adding PSI to the intake (measurable?) but I really don't know. Is VTA just for turning heads because of the sound? Are there any other advantages? Any advise or input is appreciated.

I'm also curious if anybody has had issues at the dealership due to changing out the BOV?

I found a pretty good thread on this in the MS3 forum. Recirc for MAF cars.

Maybe I'll get a Forge BPV instead of the CP-E HKS kit. I doubt the dealership would ever even notice it.

you can certainly use the HKS cp-e kit in recirc mode, it's actually designed to be used in recirc as MAF equipped cars run properly in recirc. The HKS design is superior to most other BOV's and is clearly a better choice over the Forge piece.

if you must run VTA, there is tuning available using the cp-e standback
you can tune it so the infamous backfires don't occur between shifts as most experience when running VTA on a MAF equipped vehicle such as the speed 6 or speed 3

Thanks Whooosh. I only mentioned the Forge BPV because it looks stock and wouldn't warrant any attention at the dealership. But I suppose even if I went for the HKS unit it's only a 10 min swap to put the OEM valve back on.

I was just reading some mazdaspeed protege guys talking about vta making the car faster for whatever reason. I went from turbo xs 50/50, to greddy s in vta, to greddy s in recirc and I swear the car feels slower. I couldn't put my finger on it and was about to post up.

Is this true? How could it be?

but if u have the hks with the recirc fitting the car will run good too right? or will it still run like crap? i have the hks on there right now the atmosphere becuase i jsut orderd the recirc fitting will it hurt anything beucase its not recirculating for the next couple days? i feel like hte car hesitates when i shift and get on it and it idles very weird...any ideas of why? any help would be great

yup, vta it would idle real rough, bog between shifts, and backfire and pop constantly, especially shifting high and when slowing down.... and that was the best I could tune the valve. once I put it into recirc it worked like stock but with my nice little sounds :D

how long did u keep it in VTA for?

for some reason my turbo doesnt spool in nuetral and i have an HKS BOV and nuetral it wont blow off like everyones does and i know its suppose to when its in nuetral...any ideas?

Here we go again......stop askin dumbass questions.

turbo spools when its under load.
the bov "blows off" the pressure built.
when the car is idling, your motor is at around 7-10% load.

If that doesn't answer your question, go ask mazda.

tell them your HKS ain't blowin off.

you shoulda gotten a regular 6

I just put a Turbo XS 50/50 hybrid on my MS3, took about 3.5 minutes to do, works awesome. No problems what so ever.
