Bov And Back Fire Question

hey i have a turbo XS RFL BOV and since i put it on i get a lil back fire every now and then. is this bad i heard it can damage your turbo and/or engine. if so how can i correct this!!

Well Brooklyn, the lil Nomes all ready made there way in threw your bov, The Speed needs to run in Recirc. your back fireing cuz you have it set it vta. Going recirc will solve your problem, and blow the Nomes out to :)

your car was ment to run as recirculation. this is because everytime you hear your blow off go off (sounds kinky) your ecu adjusts fuel accordingly. thus, running vta will throw off your a/f and vuala! backfire. horray for unburnt fuel!

Yep you are backfiring due to a rich condition between shifts due to VTA. Unless you tune it out, you will be backfiring like there is no tomorrow :)

if you got a tune with your VTA you would be fine because it would eliminate the ecu fix for the recirc. other than that....recirc ftw in this situ.

yeah me, too, im running HKS VTA.. backfiring happens, but not too much anymore, and it doesnt hurt anything at all man.

some people would kill to have backfire...hehehe. consider yourself lucky

it doesnt hurt anything cept your cats in the long run.. it just makes u run rich.. youll notice your exhaust tip get super black

yeah my exhaust tip is really black, but hey, oh well..

and no, my gas mileagle average is around 22, and im mostly city driving.

im running recirc and get backfire once in a while. i love it!

Me too!

I'm running with the HKS in recirc and the Cobb SRI and I get backfires once in a while. I removed 2 of my stock resonators and the backfires were super loud when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear (driving hard)! I ended up putting the resonators back on to quieten things down.

I ran in VTA for a few minutes, up and down the street, during the HKS install and it sounded great! Definitely something to annoy the wife and neighbors! ;)

I have mine recirculated and I get backfires still as well. I actually found that when I run my Greddy Type-S in VTA i get less backfires, no joke. Not sure why, seems like the loudness of the valve covers up the backfiring.

But I get worse mpg and jerkier shifting in VTA. I commute on the freeway yet still have stop ad go traffic and going up and down a huge mountain too and from work everyday and get about 25mpg in recirc, but 22-23 in VTA. It's not really loosing that much, probably thats 2-3 mpg when running vta.
