Bought a non running MSP, stumped!

Bought a 2003 mazdaspeed protege that wasn't running, turn key and no crank, clunk or anything else but the air handler would make any noise, the dash responds with all the lights etc. The door locks work and the air system turns off and on by the knob.

Changed the starter and a few other things, tried pairing a new-ish fob because this one didn't come with one, and I have tried to hand turn the crank pully and it turns so the engine is not locked up.

Removed the on-board security system and I can't find one like it locally (18 pin mazda product with three plugs) to test it or see if it pairs with my random fob...

I'm at a loss and before I sell it to be crushed I want to see if I can get it running... anyone that can lend a hand, im open to ideas!

Little late to the party, but have you checked the key ignition? Mine was kinda funny on my MP3 and the MSP is doing the exact same thing. I gotta almost jiggle the key when turning the key to start the car.

Sometimes I find myself turning the key a few times to get it to catch.
