Bought a MAZDA2 Yesterday (HELP Big Problems Already)

The car had 5 miles on the odometer. Drove it home 56 miles and everything was great. Today, I drove it and the suspension/chassis (under the car is all I know) started going nuts over bumps!!! Loud, grinding noises. Check the E-brake - nope, wasn't up. Checked under the car and wheel wells - nothing caught. Then the problem went away after I had been driving for like 20 miles... then nothing for 60... then it came back. I have 178 miles on the car... Has anyone ever heard of this happening to a brand new car?! What could it possibly be? Oh, and the rear hatch is rattling REALLY loudly, too. The car sounds like it's falling apart.

(boom06)

Also, both headlamps had lots of condensation... covering the entire bottom half.

I hope I didn't get a lemon.

:(

Take it back to the dealership immediately. You should not be having any of these problems provided you did not do anything to the car. I can think of a lot of things that could be causing your symptoms, but not with a few hundred miles. Let the dealership or Mazda NA handle it.

Yeah that sucks thought considering you have to drive almost 60 miles -.-, what an inconvenience... make sure they give you a free rental car or something!! Let us know what the problem was, once it's fixed, good luck!

Wow, that sucks. Take it back!!

Just curious, how cold out was it when you drove it home? I've noticed a lot more noise from my 2's rear end since it got into the teens.

It was 7 degrees outside... lol.

But the problem is, I drove it home for 50+ miles and it was flawless. The next day, it went to s***.

AND the dealership (or Mazda Japan) forgot to add windshield washer fluid. Jumped on the highway today and almost died. Road spray from the salt and the car in front rendered my vision nil. Turned on the wipers and oh s***, no fluid. I almost slammed into the back of a braking car. I pulled over and started wiping with my hand and it was 0 degrees out. NOT FUN. VERY PISSED. Just went to lunch, car is making the same noise. I'm not talking minor rattling, I'm talking loud ass noises like the trunk is loose.

Contacted the dealership... waiting to hear back.

It is cold. The suspension on those things does produce cracking and grinding noises when cold :(

It is a problem, but I wouldn't qualify it as a big problem (yet) because it might be normal. I would still like to hear a definite answer from Mazda whether it is normal indeed, or whether there's something to be done about it.

I understand some creaking and maybe even a little grinding here and there, but this thing sounded like Carmageddon! My Toyota Yaris NEVER made such noises. Neither did my Versa, even during single digit temperatures.

wait wait..
just calm down.
everything will get sorted out.
have mazda take a look at it...is not like the more you drive it the better it is gonna get.
you only have like 100 miles, you could probably have it replaced or returned...don't you have like 30 days to do that?

That's kinda BS about the wiper fluid. Mine was full... and they must have used the good low temp stuff too because mine hasn't frozen yet.

In for dealer's opinion.

Mine is going in on Friday for the exact problem. The sound is coming from the front and makes me think of a windshield washer fluid container stuck under the front end when it's-10oC or more....Once the car heats up it goes away about 15 mins.... I've narrowed down the issue to be a bushing problem and heard other stories on other Mazda Models....I'll keep you posted....

UPDATE:

The dealer told me that when it's too cold outside, the neoprene bushing keeps the shocks from bottoming out. If this really is the cause, then the 2's build quality is just sad... this NEVER happened with my Yaris, Versa, or Scion xA (you can see my affinity for small hatchbacks - lol). The noises disappeared since I posted this, but when I got out of work today, it was 27 degrees... and there were the noises again. What I don't get is why would the hatch area all of a sudden start banging and clanking around like it's super loose with metal bits bouncing around inside?

So that's it - weather drops under 30 and my car sounds like hell.

I don't think it's a defect after all... just severe cost-cutting. :(

Will have the car checked out on a Saturday or something.

It's might need a good Lubing...( the bushing that is...) Mine goes in Friday I'll let you know what they say. They told me last week it was a cd case in the glove box making that noise. I looked at him like how dumb are you. After looking at the web seems it's a common problem with most Mazda's. Why hasn't Mazda done a recall on this issue.

Really? Can you provide some links? I hope something can be done about this... I gave a friend a ride just now and I was EMBARASSED by the noise. She said "isn't this car brand new? It sounds like it's about to break down." :(

Yeah, man. I almost died on the goddamn highway. Going 65 and salt spray covering my windshield - turn on my wipers and there's no fluid, car brakes hard in front of me = me swerving and dodging a potentially very serious accident.

VERY NICE FIND. Thank you.

I might have to play the dealer this when I have the time to go in.

I just hope it's not ruining the suspension/chassis - long term effects and all of that.
