ok so i installed joep mbc today and i set it to 9 PSI wow! and i noticed that is spiking around 12-13 PSI.......is this bad? what can i do to eliminate boost spike???? (attn)

My joepmbc did the same thing after it was removed and returned to the car. It would spike and cut over and over again no matter how far it was backed down. I just think something fails after a while and it is no longer functional without spiking.

I took off my JoepMBC. I have an electronic BC that came with my Unichip. No spiking. Electronic BC are more reliable. It's not good to continually spike out over 10psi or more. Just having the turbo causes instant wear and tear on the engine.. now almost double that after you pass the stock boost level without mods or a safe set limit. There are more than enough people with blown engines on here that consistantly ran boost levels near the 15 psi mark. Be careful. If nothing else, take it off, check the setting and try it back out again. If it continues to slip and creep up, take it off and save up for an electronic BC.

The spike will kill your motor if you do not remidy the problem by not Hammering the gas to WOT or replacing the MBC with a better one perhaps...

spiking

i just put on the Turbohoses SMIC and i used to hold boost on my low setting with my EBC, at around 8psi, but after installed it when i stomp on it in 2nd i spike to like 17 and then it falls all the way down to 9.5 roughly and then it holds there, the spiking is really concerning me, i have no clue what it might be, i was thinking of getting a BEGi fpr would that help?

mods: Injen CAI, 3"downpipe, 3"cat-back, Turbohoses SMIC and hardpipes, greddy profec-b spec 2, greddy type-s BOV

dear god take it off! Its probobly on backwards but if thats not it leave it off until you cann afford a decent mbc, its not worth losing your motor. Yes running 9+ psi will damaged the motor without the supporting mods (Downpipe at the least) well thats what 90% of the people here will tell you. Spikes are still bad, I was pushing it spiking to 14psi for a few nights even with all of my mods. 10+psi without good tuning = (pow)

The spike occurs at the "rich" part of the rpm range. So, I don't think it's "that" horrible. I get spike to, and also have the JoeP. I'm thinking it's something with the that mbc. Not saying that it's crap or anything, just keep hearing the same story with those mbc's.

well damn people.....its set at roughly 9 PSI now im thinking about lowering it to 8 PSI....i am also starting to experiecne FUEL CUT....and this SUCKS!! Hmmm what to do about this damn spiking issue.....

P.S does anyone know of any good reading material on this subject? id really like to educate myself on this topic, its something that has me thinking and id like to understand it better than i do currently and also know whats causing this.

thanks

This right here is a steal, or PM 505zoom about an Accuboost DS-1. Both companies make good products and I think they'll be less prone to spiking. They both are almost half as much an EBC to boot. A dual stage is a better idea until you've got some EM or forged internals because at the flip of a switch you can go from stock to 9lbs or whatever and back to stock. I don't think uninstalling it for dealer trips will be all that difficult, either.

You cannot do anything "about" it, unless you buy a EBC. Or a different/more expensive MBC.
Not entirely true...from what I understand, switching to an external wastegate eliminates boost spikes.

what about the turboxs mbc? is that any better?
I Have it and after one season it started to **** up a bit...
This year I'm going to just put a 15 PSI spring in the Tial and get a E-Boost controller later...Havent decided which but it's looking like the Apex-I

I think that shortening the Wastegater Acctuator line from the pressure side will have more of an effect.

I understand what it trying to be said, but the simple fact that I have seen so far with my car is that "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"

A $100.00 boost controller is just that..

The more expensive E-Boost units are more expensive because they are more reliable...
