Boost level Question

I'm having a discussion with someone and they're saying the stock bottom end on the Miata's BP block can only handle 5-6psi before going boom.

I thought it was more than that as it was designed as a turbo motor for the 323gtx (essentially) with piston oil squirters, forged crankhafts, etc, etc.

Am I wrong?

Thanks.

The BP has been proven to do 10psi pretty safely. These engines were used turbocharged in Japan with ~7.5psi(IIRC) putting out 180hp. Many turbo Protege's are running around on 8+ PSI.

i think the BP can safely hold more than the 5~6psi they are talking about.

1BAR is fine, but you must run FI fuel maps. People always try to run FI on NA maps and can never get the thing tuned, then blame it on forced induction.

On the Greddy forum the admin Phillip ran 15psi on the stock motor. Of course you need the correct fuel, timing, and tuning done.....but thats common sense. I cant say for certain about the longevity of the motor, but it has been done multiple times and is possible.

I have been from 6 to 10psi without any problems so far. I will be going to 15 this summer and have no worries.
