boost controller, a/f ratio gauge, ems, bov

So i was thinkin the ms3 is pretty strong car out of box so why change things that it already got? I want more power, but I dont want to spend money on things the car already got...can I just get the things it doesnt have yet like boost controller cause I want more boost, of course you need to monitor ur a/f ratio..right? Do I need ems to raise my boost or a profec b is able to raise my boost say 10 psi as opposed to stock 7? Then of course I need bov to protect the engine, right? I'm not really a big fan of the bov sound if i can get away without the sound I would.

btw, i only got cai so far, motor mount too. With all the money i could spend for all new exhaust system (I like the growl of stock and it's sleeper characteristic), intercooler, bigger turbo...I could put all that money on stuff the car dont have yet. I know if you want to go all out you have to have all these things, but can i just get boost controller, a/f gauge, maybe ems (expensive), and bov to have a little more power for the car? Or am I messing up the sequence of tuning the ms3?

please guys help me with the sequence of tuning cause I dont know which comes first. I'm still new at this.

wow dude... 7psi ??? really ??
the ms3 runs 16psi stock out of the box. a boost controller is worthless on the mazda ecu. you need engine managment. check out protege garage, they can hook you up with an xede tuner and add like 50 hp and 70tq.

really 16psi? that's a big. I always thought it's about 7 psi cause i got a boost gauge that's built in the turbo timer i got and the highest i attained was 0.63 hkpa and that's about 9 psi. so I dont know maybe it's reading it wrong. maybe I should get an analog boost gauge in psi measurement.

Can anybody else confirm how much boost ms3 is making out of the box? not that i dont trust you it's just hard to believe that it's making 16

15.6 stock

im holding 18psi with my XEDE.

definitely just get a xede or any other piggy back ecu that will be out "SOON" according to many companies...so far xede is the only one i think and the gains are pretty dam nice...and u have reliability of a dd

Before the waste gate opens, it does spike at 18 psi, then settles down to around 16-15 PSI and slowly drops down to about 10 psi.

My boost gauge says -8 on idle and on full throttle it says 8 psi...so does that equals to 16 psi?

haha...nope

you should see vacuum pressure at about -20 lbs.

if it says +8 psi, that means your are boosting 8lbs.

if it says +15, you are boosting 15 lbs. etc...

i think you hooked your boost gauge up wrong !!!

Thanks for tyhe clarification. Probably the shop that installed my turbo timer/boost gauge combo installed it wrong. I'm just gonna get an analog one.

I've been reading on the other thread that the ideal ems is still up in the air partly because the other two companies havent shelled out their version yet. Well I'll wait for all of them to come out then decide which one to get. So that means for now I cant benefit from a boost controller, wont need an a/f gauge, and definitely dont need a bov for now. So what's the next thing I can put on my ms3? TBE?

To be honest, you would probably want to wait to get some sort of EM before you put a turbo-back exhaust on the car. Less backpressure at the exhaust will cause boost to spike even more than it already does, and if you don't compensate for it, bad things happen. You'd be better served just saving whatever money you are willing to spend, and get it along with the Cobb, Xede, etc when they become available (and yes I know the Xede is available).

Thanks. maybe I'll go for the asthetics first. like lighter good lookin wheels, carbon fiberhood and lowering springs then. springs are comin, I'll post a pic on the other thread. Thanks guys.

bad things will happen...whatever. Don't worry about boost spike with highflow or no cat. go ahead and upgrade your exhaust.

that's the whole point of the wastegate.. when it's spike, it lets out the air. With a boost controller you are basically increase the theshold of the wastegate, hence the increase boost. Best way to find out is also monitor your AFR, and back up by a knock sensor. If you can hold 12.3 at WOT (open loop) you'll be good. During close loop the ecu will try to maintain 14.7, so this is when you need to monitor for knocking (usually the stock fuel system isn't able to keep up)

I just ordered my forged bpv. I think boost controller and ems is way out of my head right now. This is my first turbo car....actually my first car ever. so I'll play around with this thing first before i get into those. Thanks for the respond everyone.

ah don't worry about. When I was 16, back in the late 1980s... I felt the same, just have to really get in there and learn.

"BOV" is a good way to go, since people claim that the stock leaks. All the BOV does is keep the air from the intake side from stopping/sudden slow down of the spin of the turbine. If it leaks, it just keep recirculating pressure air back to the inlet side.
