so a few days ago i started hearing a clunking/grinding sound coming from the rear end. i didnt know where it was coming from exactly so i took in in to the stealership on monday. i called to day and they told me that when they drained the differential fluid that it was burnt and that they found metal shavings in the fluid. they told me that the rear differential had failed and they are replacing it FO FREE under warrenty. the only part of this that sucks is that i have been without my car for 3 days and i wont get it back for another week.(sad1) then after that fact they gave me a Mazda 5 as a rental. its a nice mini van but its no Speed 6.

Man that sucks, at least its being covered by Mazda. How many miles were on te car when it happened? Any mods? Sorry to pry but I'm thinking of getting a speed6 in the next few months, trying to find out as much as I can about them and everything that can go wrong.

no mods at all. it started a few days ago, maybe about a week and my car has 39,600 give or take. the thing is i bought the car used and i noticed a light "clunk" when i got it. it just progressed into something louder.

Oh ok, I'll make sure I keep an ear out for any strange clunking sounds when I'm in the market for one. Any plans to mod in the future?

<----rear diff replaced under warranty @ 40k miles. mods. and they gave me a new Subi WRX :)

nice. did they give you uthe wrx as a rental? how did it compare to the 6?

and to answer your question darkane23, my buddy is working on producing an intake for the MS6 crowd.

it sounds like broken bolts

it's nice that they are replacing the diff . but i had the sound with mine and it turn out to be one of the two bolts on the side diff mount came loose and the other snap . if you are going to be launching this car hard you have to check them from time to time i snap a couple already . they start coming loose then ones there is a little of play and you drive hard they snap .

Hey now... The Mazda5 is a nive car! Not your speed6 but what did you expect? At least your arent driving a sentra or something like that.

hey i dont have any complaints about the Mazda 5, im just saying that i really want my speed 6 back. i might even consider getting one LATER on in life when i eventually have kids.

got the car back today, and it feels as good as new. the lady told me that it cost the "warrenty" (whatever that means) around 5700. she also said that if i would have paid out of pocket it would have cost me around 7000. thank god for warrenty.
