Big Problem Need Help Quick

i just got my rims installed on friday they are enkei RS7s 18x7.5 and i was told they wouldnt rub and i now another guy who has them on his car... im also dropped on eibach sportlines and i had two adults in my car last night (first day ive had the car back) and my fenders were riding on my tires.. it cracked the paint on the inside of my fenders (brand new paintjob) and will where my brand new tires down... how can i fix this without buying skinnier rims and tires or possibly rolling my fenders.. anybody else have this problem?????

What size are tires did you go with and how much of a drop over stock did you get from the Sportlines?

my tires are 225/35/18s so they are pretty much the same size as stock since the rims are bigger but the sidewalls are smalled it is pretty much even... and my drop is supposedly 1.8" heres some pics...

Go rent a fender rolling machine or go to a local rim shop, i'm sure they'll help ya out..

The height isn't really you're problem. The difference between this size and the stock 215/45R17 is mostly in the width. The stock 45 series is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch more skinny than the 225/35R18. With that amount of difference you are basically looking at not tucking the tires like you could with the stock tires. Especially with the drop. A 225/40R18 would've been almost exactly the same size as a 215/45R17. Whereas a 225/35R18 will be slightly shorter but compensate for it lack of height with extra width. It's hard to get sizes exact when swapping to a bigger wheel.

If everything worked the way it was supposed to (and it often doesn't), a 225 is only 10 mm wider at its widest point than a 215, regardless of aspect ratio or diameter.

That said, you picked up 10 mm of tire width (5 mm on each side) and your wheel is 1/2 wider than stock (6 mm per side), so you're pushing a bit more width toward the fender either way you go. If you gave up any offset at all on those wheels, you're probably going to rub. Especially with the drop. Our cars don't have a lot of extra room to begin with, and in your pics it sure looks like those wheels are sticking out quite a bit more than stock. What offset are those wheels?

My vote is for rolling the lips and keeping your fingers crossed that it will be enough to give you clearance. I just ran into a similar situation with my 323 GTX, and a tire/wheel combo that has worked on other people's car didn't clear on mine. Good luck.

ok thanks for the info... the offset is 45 so i thought that should be fine.. ya i know they are out like probably 1/2 an inch more id say maybe even like 5/8s or so

225 is too big for our cars, I got rubbing issues with 17's on 225/45/17

215/35/18 would work, but your best bet is a 205/35/18

Not going to really be able to roll the rear fenders because there is not much to roll. the center point is already kinda cut out.

Best bet is thinner tires, maybe trade with somebody.

A 225/35/18 is not only wider than a 215/35/18, it is also TALLER.

215/35/18 is perfect and it is pretty much the max we can go... especially after a drop. Sorry to hear about your paint man.

A 7.5" wide wheel will work with that tire as well... as long as it is +45 or higher offset.

my 18 x 7 with 42 offset works

if they are rubbing 1/2" thats huge just moving the tires to 215 is not going to fix that even with a 45 offset you might fit it with 48

crap... my tire shop will not take the tires back either since i have driven them for 2 days now... they are the bfgoodrich gforce kdw t/a so they are not cheap at all.. so i cant afford to buy new ones... i dont know what to do know... s***

Try looking on eBay... Maybe there will be something.. I know where the shop is coming from though because my family owns 3 local tire shops, one which I manage. The only way they'd be able to take them back is if you were willing to send them in to SEE if they could be adjusted, which is SUPER hard to get any supplying company to do, by the shop's supplier and even then all they could do is replace the ones you have with the same exact tire you already have. It wouldn't do you any good tho because you'll still have to come off more money for the tread that you've used in the two days. Even tho it's not a significant enough amount to make a difference the thing is that they are now "used" tires and can't be resold or reused at a new tire dealership.

even with different tires I dont think it will fix the problem

if your tires are hanging 1/2" over how do you think changing it to from a 225 to a 205 is going to fix it? thats 20mm, divide that in half thats 10mm, 1 cm, 1cm does not = 1/2" which means it will still rub

i was saying 1/2 an inch more than the stock rims... i was just estimating since i dont have my stocks on anymore i cant compare... the outside of the tire is perfectly aligned with the inside of the fender.. it rubs on the outside of the tire not the top if you know what i mean... i think rolling them out a bit will take away just enough to fix the problem no? try and look at my pics to see... ill take better pics and post them tomorrow to give you a better idea...

correction!!! i originally ordered 225s but at the last second i changed to 215s to be safe and forgot... my tires are actually 215s on 7.5s and i thought that would be good... i went to a rim machine shop today and they said machining the hub down is probably the best idea since our cars are 4 doors they cant roll them too much since the back door sits by the fender and my rear bumper (fiberglass) would need to be pulled out as well to line up
